Does anyone know how to eliminate or minimize the stubbornness in a five yr. old boy with down syndrome? Just had a conference with his preschool teacher. We are looking for some good ideas on how to help him have more good productive learning and testing days. He will not participate at all when he's in a stubborn mood. We are not sure how to handle this. I've heard this is typical for down kids. I would like to be able to have more consistent good days.

A reward system may work if there is a particular item of interest to him on most days, ie:special toy(s), outside play, story time, etc. I do not suggest taking anything away, as this may reinforce the stubbornness you are trying to avoid. I pray this helps (=
