Hello everyone, I've been teaching students with special needs for almost 4 years now. I was a first a high schol EH self contained teacher and now I'm a middle school spe teacher. I really miss high school!!!!!!!!!!! It has a been a long 18 weeks and I'm feeling the burn...........Most days I love it but I have a crew this year and I think we are all looking forward to Christmas break

I've got 4 kids in elementary school, my oldest has Autism.

He's turning 12 in Feb. This is his 1st year mainstreaming with RSP.

Big change. He actually requested it. The constant noise in his SDC was

bothering him. He's in 5th grade now and the next

big change is 6th grade next year at a middle school. I'm

nervous about it. Don't really know what to expect. He's

having a hard time now that he realizes that he's slower than

the other kids. I"m trying to keep his self-esteem up.

Any ideas for boosting his ego? He's very aware of younger

(10-11) kids in 5th grade alot smarter. Very hard on himself,

perfectionist. Thanks :)

What is the biggest reason you miss HS students? I student taught in MS setting but actually got my first full year position at the HS. I was nervous...10 years later, I would never leave the HS. I taught EMH (is that same as your EH?) for 8 years. But after LRE and RTI all of the self contained classrooms was dissolved. Now I teach Cross Cat Reading... and when I started I was nervous...again! But the change came at the right time. I feel refreshed. Just keep in mind that some years the group is just a rough mixture and usually doesn't happen 2 years in a row. :) USUALLY!
