Teacher does not understand Dyslexia and ADD. I cannot help it but 2 min. with her and I am already on the defense. My daughter has gone to other teachers for help but come to find out later this teacher jumps them about it. How do I keep it together while putting her in her place????

Connie, my 7 yr. old was recently diagnosed with ADD and dyslexia, I have had numerouse problems with the teacher and all I can say is stand your ground and don't back down that works for me and my son gets a lot of help from the school district I jsut keep writing them letters and before you know it he has a tutor and classes that he is taken to throughout the day. Good Luck!

Is your daughter's IEP already in place? If so, the school district is mandated by the federal law under the I.D.E.A. to get whatever services are stated in the IEP. Also, if there is something you don't agree with in that IEP, you have a right for a review. You have a right to put that teacher in her place when your child is not being treated fairly. I'm a teacher with an ADHD child and I don't put up with that kind of treatment when it comes to my children.

I believe there are certain laws that are set to help protect your daughter and to make sure she gets the help she deserves. I would look into them and make the teacher aware of them. Maybe then she will help your daughter instead of hindering her...?
