My 6 year old son is a wonderful very bright child, but he has been diagnosed with ADHD/ODD just last year. I do not want to medicate him! I had him in counseling and the school had set up special settings in the class room to try to help him but now his behavior is out of control and they can no longer meet his needs, they recommended I place in in a alternative school so I did hoping that would help him. He's been there for a month now. I talk to the local herb store and asked them if they could suggest anything to help him focus and they recommended a focus for children and DRA for children ;cod liver oil. I cant really notice a difference in his behavior and hes going on four weeks with them. The school everyday keeps telling me how hipper he is and some days his behavior is good and others its bad, really bad. Its like a switch goes off, one minute he can be the nicest most caring child in the word and then a switch goes off in his mind and hes uncontrollable, it is really like Dr Jekyll mr Hyde. I don't know what else to do for him, I'm really scared for him. I know he cant control it but how is he going to gain control of it?

That 's awesome! i know how you feel about the taking up smoking again...i quit 14 years ago ansd some noghts after their homework is done i would have smoke i'm so wound up! LOL . Do you know if synaptol works on kids with just attention difficite but that are not hyper? becaus up to now my problem is that when i give them something that works well on kids that are truly adhd it doesn't work for my boys because they eare not hyper . So what it does os ,do nothing for the attention and turns them into hypers. The L_theanine is working a little but i wish i could find something that is not a "drug" and that actually work for my sons too. Good luck for this week! and thanks for the friendship add. keep me posted!

Were going on are third week with it now. Last week he did make it throw all five days of school with no problems, I almost didn't know how to act. I will say that He spent the night at his grandmother on Friday and was there most of the on Saturday I told her to give it to him after Breakfast and then again after supper if I was not back, well she gave it to him after breakfast and then after lunch to close together so he did not get the evening dose and then his farther forgot to give it to him Sunday morning, by supper time Sunday night I was ready to take up smoking again, mind you I quite 3 years ago, he was that unmanageable. Ned-less to say he got it right after he was done eating and the evening went much better and his morning was good again, so I'm hoping this week is as good as last week, I will keep you posted and let you know it is working for him.

I'm not going to lie to you and tell you it's a miracle pill but both my twins have add without the hyper ( they're just realy spacy) and i've been giving them L-Theanine. It's found in health store and some pharmecys and i give them omega 3 everyday !!! ( i've read that to see an actual change you have to give it to them everyday for atleast 3 month) . They still stuggle in math and in french( we live in montreal )but in all the other subjects they have grade from 85% to even 99%. We work hard with them and for now they are passing in everything . Both teachers have told me they see a difference in their attention since we have started to give them L-theanine. I'm not saying that i wont have to medicate them someday ( but i realy pray i wont have to) but for know it is working! Good luck to you and your little boy!

I'm about at my wits end, I don't know what do anymore. I cant fight this battle myself anymore. I was really against medicating him, but I think its about time I put my own feelings a side and try what the Dr. is telling me do. This has to be really hard on him.

My son was also diagnosed around that age. First grade was horrible but we chose to medicate and it made a world of difference. It really helped with the impulsive behaviors. His grades have always been great because he is able to focus like he needs to in school. He is 11 now and still has occassional bad days but the majority are good. Some of it is just that he is maturing which is really helping. Good luck to you!
