My 2 month old is constipated

Last night, I was terrified when my 2 month old started screaming in pain, I went to change his diaper and found a hard stool, and when I cleaned his bottom, there was a bit of blood from passing the stool. He's only been on his formula for about a week, so I don't want to blame the formula for his constipation yet. I started adding a bit of extra water to his bottles to try to prevent it from happening again, but is there anything else I can do to help my constipated 2 month old? Also, I have been putting Vaseline on his bottom to help with the soreness after passing his stool, but is there anything else I can put on him to help with pain when he has another bowel movement? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would say that it is the formula. It can happen anywhere from the first bottle to a month after a new formula is started. I do agree w/the little bit of juice. Use a baby juice or 100% juice like juicy juice. You can use either apple juice, pear or prune juice. You can even put a tad of juice in w/her formula (make the formula normal and add like a tbsp of juice).
Doing the exercises I see one mom post should help her w/passing the stools. If she enjoys her bath give her a nice warm (obviously not too warm for her delicate skin) bath which will help her relax if she enjoys them, you can do the exercises in the bath as well. Another thing... if you massage/rub her tummy and/or back ONLY do so in a clockwise manor! Other wise you can make her more constipated.

I HAD THE SAME ROBLEM. I CALLED TRHE DRS AND THE NURSE SAID INTRODUCE HER TO BABY PEAR JUICE- HOWEVER- IT DID NOT WORK- I ALSO TRIEDE 2TBLS OF KARO SYRUP IN EACH BOTTLE- AND THAT WORKED ONCE BUT NOT AGAIN AFTER THAT. SINCE THE NURSE ALSO MENTIONED WE WANT TO INTRODUCE PRUNES TO HER AT A YOUNG AGE-SO SHE LIKES THEM LATER----I MIXED 3 BABY SPOON FULLS OF PRUNES-STEP 1 BABYFOOD GERBER-BUT IT SHOULDNT MATTER AS LONG AS THEY ARE PUREED VERY WELL) AND I MIXED IT WITH 2 OZ. OF BABY PEAR JIUCE. IT WORKED WONDERS!!!! AND I HAVE TO GIVE HER IT EVERYOTHER DAY SO SHE DOESN'T BACK UP. OF COURSE I TRIED THE PEAR JUICE FIRST TO MAKE SURE SHE DID NOT GET AN ALLERGIC REACTION FROM IT- SO IF SHE DID FROM THE PRUNES MIXED WITH PEAR JUICE- I WOULD KNOW IT WAS FDROM THE PRUNES BC I ALREADY TESTED THE PEAR JUICE.

Poor baby...This is what I do...Since your lil man is only 2 months....boil some banana in water...and use that banana water (when cooled) and give it to your baby to drink. He needs more water...and it is the formula making him constipated. Yeah just boil apple, banana some fruits in water and give that water to him...and freeze the boiled mashed up fruit for when he starts on solids. Hope this helps.

Okay, I was nervous about giving him juice. This is his 4th formula after breastmilk, and the only formula that hasn't hurt his stomach so far...(I hope).
I'll try the juice next to see if that helps him...I want to try to avoid switching his formula yet again if at all possible.

I struggled with constipation with my daughter for over a month she'd go 6 days at times what worked for me....after 6 weeks its safe to give 20ml of prune/apple juice blend with 20ml of water (once or twice of that and she'd poop) pumping the legs does help too...but the biggest change was when I changed her to a formula with probiotics (good start and Gerber have one) since then shes back to a regular schedual and comfortable poops...theres also probiotics for infants you can add to formula if you dont want to switch formulas thats at a health food store though

I haven't use it yet to my 2nd son but i already used it on my 1st son 11 yrs ago... try using a suppository to help your constipated 2 month old. I don't know if you have heard this medication... there goes in 2 sizes, for adults and for babies. Plug it in his rectum if his having a hard time again. It will help to liquefy his stool and it will come out together with it. Here's a little explanation about suppository I've searched at the internet:...Suppositories are a type of medication that is in the form of a plug or capsule and inserted directly into the rectum or the vagina. While most people think of the suppository as a medication to deal with constipation, the fact is that there are a number of different health conditions that can be treated using medicine in this form.

In shape, the typical suppository is usually in the form of a small plug. The exterior coating is formulated to begin dissolving after insertion. Body heat plays a role in triggering the breakdown of the medication. As the suppository dissolves, the medication is released and absorbed into the surrounding tissue.

Gripe water will help your constipated 2 month old, but if you were breast feeding, then I recommend you keep doing it as breast milk will fix all problems, even if you only nurse once each day. I would take him to the doctor since there was blood. That is very worrisome, even though it was from constipation, but that is pretty serious for such a young child like that to be going through. Could you imagine going through that? He may be dehidrated and even though it might suck, he could need an IV.

I started mixing in a bit of baby apples with my daughters food and giving her some apple juice (watered down of course) and they helped. Maybe you should try soy formula too... It can help if youve tried so many others because your child may have a milk allergy... I'd say ask the dr about your constipated 2 month old and see if they can help. :)
