My son is 5 weeks old and had a cold =( I'm very worried that it could turn into something more. He is coughing, very congested, and a bit of a snotty nose. He has been sleeping alot and not eating normally. Less frequent and small amounts, almost just doing it to fall back to sleep. I know I can't give him anything but does anyone have suggestions of what I can do that might help??? It's breaking my heart.....

I agree with all the suggestions above. Call your doctor though to make sure it is just a cold. Also when mine had his first cold. The doctor had me put him to sleep in his car seat at night in his crib. Turn on the humidifier and make sure his nose is clear with the aspirator. There is not much you can do otherwise....they are too young for medication.

My 5 month old son is sick with a cold too!
Try giving him saline drops in his nose, wait a bit & then suction with a nasal aspirater. I use Hydrasense; it's really good. Suction before he eats & offer him breast or bootle frequently. His appetite will be down
I use a waterless vaporizer by Vicks & Vicks baby rub for his chest & back.
Bring him to the bathrrom with shower going so he can breathe in the steam to loosen up the phlegm
My little guy started gagging on phlegm & turning red so I brough him to the ER today. We were sent home & he's been watched very closely.
It's terrible when little babies get sick! I hope yours gets better soon! :)

Yeah they have baby vicks but you want to be very careful if he is coughing and is very congested i would take him to the doctors immediately my son got rsv at 3 mo and was admitted to the hospital its just a common cold to us but very dangerous to babies!!

baby vicks, def a humidifier helps out, try keeping the baby on a slight angle while sleeping < such as a swing or vibrating chair, they even have a angled matt you can put under the mattress or under the sheets> ... that way all the mucus can run out of his nose at night instead of staying in, using the buld to suck it out will help the snot too!... as far as the bottle... you can try to actually spoon feed it to him... you dont have to add the cereal to it or anything just pour a little milk on a baby spoon and let him eat it that way... sucking a bottle is hard for him to breath beacuse of his snotty nose... good luck i hope he feels better soon!!

My baby had a cold at 3 weeks it was so sad. My ped told me to use a humidafier or hold her up in a steamy bathroom. Also when she was congested to ger saline nose drops and put a drop in each nostril before using the sucker bulb to suck it out. Watch his breathing if he is having a hard time and it is taking him a great deal of effort you should call your doctor. I hope he is feeling better soon!!!

Thank you all. I debated calling the doctor on Friday but didn't want to jump the gun so I decided against that. I ran the vaporizer the past 2 nights and have been putting him in the bathroom with me while I shower. He seemed better yesterday ... was awake more & hardly any coughing. He is still sneezing, has stuff in his nose, still congested, and sometimes acts as if he has gunk/phegm in his throat. He slept 9 hours last night (usually about 7 hours) & has been sleeping all morning with the exception of waking every now and then to feed briefly. He hasn't had a fever at all. Has had some eye goo and eyes tend to look a bit glassy. Think I will call the doc tomorrow....

First, have you taken him into the pediatricians office? It is flu and RSV season.
For congestion, I would not use any Vick's or anything similar, but I know a lot of people do. He just seems too young to me.
Turn the shower on hot, close the curtain and bathroom door, sit on the toilet seat with baby with out the bathroom fan on. The steam will help with the congestion for a short while of time. I do that with my son before bedtime when he is congested.
The suction bulb thing for the nose never worked for either of my 2 and just pissed them off. You can get a humidifier and put it in baby's room.
For the cough there is nothing really.
The things for congestion should also help with the runny nose.
CJ is almost 7m old and just got over a virus that lasted about 4weeks! He had the same symptoms, but he also had a fever and some other things.

Good luck, I hope he feels better soon!
