7 mth old yells @ strangers to get their attention

My son will be 8 months soon and he's always been an attention hog. The past month he started yelling (not screaming) to get attention. If I leave the room he yells, if he is bored or hungry he yells. Once you look at him and say something he gets so happy. I give him plenty of attention so I know he's not deprived. It's gotten so bad now that when we go to the store he yells at every stranger he can. He yells until they look at him and then he flashes the biggest smile you've ever seen! Then they melt and have to come talk to him, he smiles and laughs for them. Which is good, he's not shy and he makes a lot of old people happy! But he's so loud and now my shopping trips take twice as long! How can I get him to stop yelling?

that is actually funny :) I am sure he enjoys hearing himself as well as the attention he gets. plan for a longer trip and leave a bit earlier since you know strangers are going to approach your son .sounds like he has a great personality and he is very popular at the grocery store. other than planning for a longer trip there really isn't much else you can do. I guess you can try to keep him busy with some toys.

no no no, just kidding! Honestly, I dont see what the problem is. As long as he's not throwing a huge meltdown temper tantrum to get strangers to notice him, then I think its fine. He's a baby. You cant really teach him that supermarkets arent for yelling, you know? He'll grow out of it.
