7 week old sleeping all the way through the night...

Do you think I should be giving him a dream feed?

He drinks 200ml of formula four times a day, his last feed is about 8-10pm and then he goes to sleep and doesn't wake up til 6:30 the next morning.

He never seems to want any more feeds than that and the only reason he's drinking a whole 200ml is because he kept wanting more. He lost quite a bit of weight after hospital because my supply was low and I didn't know, so we think this is his way of getting his body to catch up.

I don't know if I should be trying to feed him more during the day, because he's having so much formula in one feed, I don't want to force it into him. He's still putting on weight.

My little boy was quite small born and lost weight (as they do), so I was told by my midwife to wake him for a feed if he did not wake because he was so small - but then as got bigger we found we didn't need to wake him he woke when he was hungry. Your son is gaining weight so I don't think you need to worry - I would say be grateful you are one of the very lucky mummies out there whose baby actually sleeps through (mine does too although he was 11 wks when he started (he's now 6 months)). Please don't force your baby to have more food - remember we are all different and so are babies try not to compare him to others too much. If you are still concerned I would visit your dr they can help to put your mind at rest.

My daughter started sleeping through the night at 5 weeks as well and never had a problem gaining weight. She is now 6 months and sleeps 12 hours everynight. Good job mommy on getting your newborn to sleep all the way through the night. It only gets better from here!!! :-)

My daughter (1 month) told me not to wake her up to eat...and if she was hungry she would let me know... she is eating 6-7 oz every 4-5 hours the amount you are feeding is just fine. Dont worry....

If he is still gaining weight let him sleep but find out from your doctor first

i wouldn't bother, he'd wwake if he needs to eat - my son started sleeping through at 5 weeks and my dr told me to leave him be unless he started losing weight - your dr will let you know if you need to tart the night feeds up again. enjoy your sleep!

If he is still putting on weight and has enough wet nappies I would just leave him, but you might want to check with your health nurse to make sure, I am in no way qualified to advise you. But if it was my baby and everything else was fine I would tend to let him go, you could always try dream feeding, it didn't work for me my daughter was not interested. It's funny babies really are so different my daughter is 5 months old and will not take more than 100 - 120mls a feed 5 times a day but she put on heaps of weight.
