My Son is almost 3 weeks old he only has a BM once a day but farts constantly and it could clear out a whole room. This is my first child but i have babysat plenty before hand and i've seen that they get stiff from gas and he does but not very bad it more seems like he is upset. I was just wondering if I should switch his formula to soy. Yesterday his BM seemed maybe acidy his bottom was sore and there was a little cut. I mentioned something to the doctor at his 2 week check up about how abnormal is BM and is farts smell and he said if i want i could switch him to soy but he didnt seemed to concerned about it since my son isn't spitting up and he is eating well as he almost gained 2 lbs already from birth.

Do you think it could just be the formula you are using? I know my first son got real gassy with similac but was fine with enfamil. Luckily my younger son is content with the costco brand :) Your doctor probably isn't worried because the farts are relieving him of some of the built up gas and it doesn't sound like an allergic reaction to milk. Good luck

I would try the soy. Give it a week or so. I once heard that often times babies will have a hard time with the milk based formulas but not have any allergies to milk as they get older. Another good kind of formula is Carnation Good Start. My son had problems with constipation and doc. recommended that one. He said it breaks up easier for them and is easier on their tummies. I was allergic to milk as a child so I just started both my kids on the soy formula right away and did not go to the milk based one. There are also gas drops you can buy that you add to their formula and it is suppose to help. You can find them at any drug store or wal-mart, target. I would just try different things giving it a week or so to see how it works before changing to something different. Just him getting older might help too.
