Am I wrong for not giving Tylenol after immunizations?

My son is 2 months old and received his immunizations today. I didn't give him any tylenol before and the doctor told me to give him tylenol ONLY if the pain is too much for him or if his fever goes up too high (over 102). His temperature is at 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit. It hasn't gone any higher so I haven't given him any tylenol. Am I wrong for holding off on it? My in laws are giving me the stink eye because I haven't done it but my baby isn't fussy and he's eating right. I've noticed that he is sleeping more than usual. Should I give in or wait it out?

I think you made a great decision! I hear alot of parents giving kids tylenol at the slightest of things. If he isnt fussy or has a fever, he dont need it. My relatives gave me the sniff too about things I do and not do for my child but remember it doesnt matter, and dont let people get to you, you are the mother and you did what was best for him. Besides My dr tells me to give him tylenol before he comes in to decrease the pain? I dont because hes going to feel a shot regardless of tylenol and afterwards they are usually fine without it, they might be more sleepy or lose an appetite but that is normal. I say you did the right thing! Do what you think is best

my little guy just had his 6 month shot today and i only give him Tylenol when he needs it, why jam more stuff into their little bodies if you dont have to. Tylenol is for a back up.

I only give my kids tylenol after shots if they are super cranky. Otherwise its completely unnecessary. I also only give tylenol if their fever is over 101. This day in age people are just so used to overmedicating which is not a good thing.

Thank you all! I'm happy to report that we made it through that night without any meds and his fever went away by the morning. The next day he was back to his happy little self. He was still a little whimpery but nothing a little cuddling didn't fix :)

If he is fine don't worry what the in laws do or say. He is not their kid, he is yours and if there is nothing wrong with him then you have nothing to worry about. Shots take a lot out of babies and it makes them sleep more. If he starts to run a fever follow the pedi's instructions on dosage and give tylenol but only if it is truly needed.

I never did with my daughter, for any fever I just gave her a cool sponge bath. I did once for my son, but he was really achy and was having a hard time napping because of it.

Why would you give him drugs when he's not sick?

Sometimes if it is given right after vaccination it counter acts it. If baby seems okay, leave him be, natural is always better :) He will sleep because remember a vaccination basically gives you the thing that it is going to fight against. Continue to check him and his fever should go down. If it rises and concerns you, call his pedi or do what you feel is best :)

If he's not cranky and doesn't seem to be affected by the shots then I wouldn't give him anything. I only gave my children Tylenol if I noticed they were irritable after their shots so they didn't get it every time.
