I make all my son's food at home. First I did start off with the organic food jars from the store and tried every single one that he was allowed to eat so I can get an idea as to what he liked and disliked and to see which ones he had any allergic reactions to.
Then I started to make them at home, used ice cube trays to freeze and then bagged them and labelled/dated them. Usually the frozen food is good for 3 months but my little man finishes the stuff pretty fast and I make very little so I can try new things every week. I so..so.. enjoy making his food at home and he loves it too.
Good luck and have fun. Try making sweet potatoes first. My son went crazy for it.

i just used to purre whatever we were eating, and if i knew it was going to have a lot of spice or salt i would juust take it out before i added it. when i started feeding Alexia she wudnt take any baby food in jars so everything had to be my own. things we used to do were
mashed potatoe
carrots/mixed veg
mango
banana
pear - although left it till al ittle later about 5 months i think as the texture was funny for her! she is a right fuss bum
basically from about 7 months she was eating the same as us just a purreed version - the best by far being roast dinner! still now at 19months roast still beats everything else! lol

Hey yes i have, i brought fruit from side stalls and boiled in with a little water and then mashed in through a seive as i dont have a wizz. I put then in ice cube trays then into wee bags as they dont eat much at first. I have done pear, yellow peaches and black boy peaches with apple as they were sour. Good luck its so much fun!

http://www.homemade-baby-food-recipes.co... is a great place for more information. It gives you allergy concerns as well as recipes for each age group. I mix it up with some homemade and some store bought. It was a great way to get my daughter interested in food (good food) and introducing textures, which are lacking in store bought food! Good Luck!

when i first started solid foods i just puree vegies and fruit. only introduce 1 food at a time...easy to see if baby has an allegey to a food. and as time goes by leave little chunks in it. at 8months my son is eating everything we do in small chunks..no puree :)

I have never used any sort of cookbook. i just cooked extra veges when i was doing our dinner and then i would puree or mash depending on age and as it was what they had both already kinda eaten as i breastfed we never had any problems with them transitioning to solids. My son and daughter both were eating what we ate at at dinner time whentthey were 12months old.

I love making Lyla's food and I have tried the jars from Earths Best, but Lyla doesn't like it as much as she likes homemade food.

I make all my son's food and he loves everything... He eats apples, pears, mangos, bananas, blueberries, carrots, butternut and acorn squash, peas, greenbeans and sweet potatoes... He loves everything. I sometimes mix flavors also since I have them in little cubes. It is awesome that I know exactly what he eats!!!

I do a combination now days, but mostly i make Izaaks (11mths)food....when he first went onto solids he hated the jar/tin stuff and to this day will only eat some jar food.....he much prefers my food......it has less 'water' in it too just the pure food.

I make all mine. have done since my daughter started on solids. it is so much cheaper, very quick and easy to do. My daughter has been eating everything we eat since 7 months though so that makes it even easier again.

i have made all of my childrens food, the youngest is 6mths. They do not like brought baby food and if you have tasted it you understand why! But they eat everything we do starts off pureed, mashed and then gets thicker and chunkier until they eat normally, my 21mth old eats with forks and spoons exactly what we eat! it is easy just put a bit more on and buy some small containers so you can freeze the extra so when you are having foods baby cant eat you have thier meal ready.

its suprising how much cheaper it is to make your own food and healthy to!

I have always made my LO's food. Used jars as convenience if we were out at meal times, but I found he wasnt very keen on them. So uch cheaper to make your own, plus you know exactly what is in there. I got a cheap hand blender for when he was little. When I made meals, I would just double up on everything (mash, veg, etc), blend it and freeze it in portions, then you always have handy meals. Hes 16months now, and I still do the same. That way, if we are having take away, etc, I know I have something healthy for my LO xx

I make all mine, it's so cheap and I know exactly what she is getting! I actually bought about 30 jars of baby apples just so I could use the jars to freeze my food, I tried her on the apples because I didn't want to waste it and she refuses to eat it! Luckily I like it, so I have had to eat them! I make a batch of fruit and a batch of veggies each week and freeze it, only takes me about 30 minutes, I couldnt imagine having to buy it, it would be so expensive. I think that it probably costs under a 1/4 of the price to make it at home.

I made all of my sons foods until WIC started covering jarred stuff. He doesn't like green veggies out of the jar though so I still make those and sometimes I'll make his fruits but for the most part he now gets fruits and yellow veggies from a jar.

i use both. i will make fresh vegetables most nights, but keep a jar or more in the cupboard for those nights when i just couldn't be bothered or we are out at meal times. my son enjoys both, but then he likes his food anyways. fresh is better as it has no additives or seasonings to it.

I started making my son's food when he was about 7 months. I only make the veggies, he still gets jarred fruits. But I sure do get gratification out of it!

I can't get over how easy it is!! There is way more variety with making your own, they don't make asparagus, avocado, zuccinni, in the jars so I'm thrilled to be able to give him the variety.

I do; and love it. It's a little easier now, as my daughter just eats what we eat, but when she was just starting out, it was so much fun preparing all of her food. I am proud to say I have NEVER given her jar food; its gross!

Its fantastic making your own (in my opinion)! you get see everything that goes in to your little ones food! i used to make vegetable puree's and then mixed fruit ones for puddings! she loved them! sometimes i would add a little of her milk in to it to make it creamier and go a little further- that was the only thing i found- it doesn't go as far you think! i used to get out one of each veg thinking ...hmm ... that will make a couple of days or i can freeze them ... but it never did! maybe my portion sizes were out though!
good luck and enjoy! it really is so lovely when they start eating solids!

i used to make pretty much all of my son's food when he was tiny. i say used to because now he's older its mainly a bit of both and not always home made.
it was great just cooking a batch of food when he'd gone to his daddys for the day or when he was sleeping.
he's not a huge fan of fruit now a days .. only likes it pureed and mixed with yogurt or something but he likes his veg.

My son had his first cereal (oatmeal) yesterday, and I plan to make as much of his food as I can. The website will be a wonderful resource.

I make al my sons food!! He only eats prunes, apples, pears and carrots.. I don't make the prunes homemade though because I can't seem to find fresh ones anywhere!! But everything else I do.. He was iffy with the apples at first being homemade and would spit them out but I just kept trying and now he loves them.. He loves his carrots being fresh made.. He hates them from a jar!!! I love making his stuff though because its so much more convenient because I know I won't be running to the store as often and if he were to say be out of carrots at his feeding I couldquickly whip some together rather than having to run out to the store!!!

i make my son's food, it's so convenient to just freeze it up in an ice cube tray! i have found though that some things my son doesn't like right off with the homemade but would eat it from the jar (peas and carrotts were two that he wouldn't eat the homemade at first, but now he will)
