Are baby swings bad for baby's back?

My little guy slept a lot in his swing and my neighbor thinks that may have been really bad for his back. it was that fisher price "in the sea" swing. But you would think these things would be designed for babies to sleep in, no? Now he sleeps in a crib but the first 2-3 months he slept in that swing a lot

Thought that long term perspective might be of use...

All 3 sons spent a lot of time in baby swings the first year - both sleeping and just chilling out - they loved them and found them soothing - and this was the first and 2nd generation of swings 30 years ago - the current ones are just amazing - far gentler, softer, better positioning.

Despite being in earlier models, all 3 in perfect spinal/neck health. BTW, also survived basic canvas umbrollers, simple canvas baby jumpers, baby carriers and very early plastic shell babyseats...- only supports then were stuffing blankets around them...(oh the days) Kids were happy, never had issues, have always played all sports and currently all are strong and have very active jobs...again, all is well.

Fisher Price swing is light years better - DH's grandchildren used it and at 5 and 3 are just fine. Babies are amazingly durable. Relax and enjoy...

Hey thanks everyone for your vote of confidence... ;-)
Michelle, I found out a great way to deal with the batteries... the hardware store by me sells these like fake D batteries. Its like the same size but its hollow. SO I put rechargeable AA batteries in those things andit works. The only thing is he used to use the swing so much I had to recharge the batteries every other day, lol

Sounds like one of those "wives tales/bad advice" piece of imformation. l've never heard of any concerns over babies sleeping in swings, or the bouncy chairs which are shaped the same as a swing.

Your baby should be fine as long as you didn't leave your baby in there all day long. My son would only sleep in his swing for the first 3 months. We had a Graco Sweetpeace. He is now 18 months old and has no problems.

Well, considering that they are made for babies, I would say that it would be fine for your baby to sleep in it. It was great when my son was smaller and he could take little naps in it while I did stuff around the house.
