Now that they are stating that they are not so educational, where do we go? What is a replacement something that is educational and not just junk? I want my son to have something to watch that is ok for him.....right now we watch good morning america every morning but that will not last much longer since he is only 11 weeks old!

I have a 10 month old son we both like the baby einstein videos but I also let him watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Blues Clues. I mainly just talk to my baby and teach him myself, also I would (well still do) play my cello for him and play lots of classical music which helps babys brain and your own too. I would just recommend anything very colorful and has classical music. I'm not sure if this was helpful in any way but I hope so.

True not all of Baby Einstein aims to be educational, entertaining is not always such a bad thing as long as you don't overdo it. My son loves the First Signs, and the Wordsworth, and pretty much all of them that have words in them. He loves the My Baby Can Read videos too, so even when he is watching TV he's still learning. Actually watching the videos with them and repeating the words to them helps them retain the information a lot faster than constantly watching it by themselves though.

my sons hates them. he LOVES LOVES LOVES little einstein's tho. we have 3 or 4 dvds with 5 episodes each, he is 11 months old and can sit through an entire episode without getting sidetracked. he smiles and claps and dances with the music.

my daughter has been watching hooked on phonics and absolutely loves them, there are only 3 of them, they are not in front of me but the name of one i believe is "Read, ryme, clap......and there are 2 songs on each of them (the itsy bitsy spider, twinkle twinke, etc.) she watches them repeatedly and she is learning so much, there are other children on them and they go over and over the songs and rymes, its wonderful it gives me 30 min to recuperate... she is 9 months now and learned so many words from it, and even claps when they clap. i ordered them from a book club www.cbomc.com

Babies aren't supposed to watch TV until at least 2 years according to the AAP and pretty much every child health organization. Just leave the tv off and play with him or get him some exciting toys and books to explore on his own. No need to buy overpriced DVDs. You're not doing him any favors by putting him in from of the tv - educational show or not.

Quoting Cori:

i never let my son watch tv until he was 6 months old... we watched a little baby einsteins first moves and stuff like that but he was never interested.. they are saying now that they arent educational because people are just turning on these videos and sitting their kid down in front of it and not interacting with them and the video.. your kid isnt going to learn from a tv they will learn from you... just like they arent going to learn from playing with a book, you have to make the effort and sit and read it to them.

My thoughts exactly! They need human interaction even if you do use these videos.

They work for us. My daughter watched the younger ones before a year occasionally and now we watch Baby Einstein's Baby Wordsworth DVD and she is 18 months and she loves it. She asks for it all the time. Her and I are learning sign language from it and she can say about 80-100 words and knows what they all mean. I watch it with her so that I know what she means when she is doing the sign language too.

the "studies" show that anything before 2 years old doesn't help anyhow----just spend some time with him---thats the important part :-)

My son has watched it. He prefers Carebears. As long as you watch anything WITH your child and not use it as a baby sitter, I don't see a problem. Watching it periodically won't cause your child to get a form of retardation. Leaving them to learn everything by that and not through their parents will hinder their growth. You can trade in your videos for a book if you wish, which I prefer.

Don't worry hon! :)
