Hi all,
My daughter is nearly 6 weeks old she is breast and formula fed. Today after she had a nap i noticed that she smelt funny, its a sharp smell, kind of like vinegar. Its not her breath, its actually her skin or her sweat. We have a doctors appointment next week anyway, but i was wondering if anyone has had the same experience?

Thanks for the suggestions, she doesn't have cradle cap and its strange because today was a hot day and she smelt fine, no vinegar. It seems to be on and off and i'm wondering if she might be allergic to something i'm eating. Theres no history of dairy allergies in my family but i'll speak to the pediatrician anyway and see what he says. I read about the bacterial infections too, but although she was a bit grizzly today i don't think she's sick. So far, its still a mystery as to why her sweat smells like vinegar!

I agree with Holly. Alternatively, has she got cradle cap?? As was reading your post i remembered the smell you talk about but my Thomas had cradle cap which smelt just as you describe xx

from what i'm reading about sweat smelling like vinegar, it says bacteria. she could have an infection. my son was allergic to my breast milk and broke out in a rash w/out odor. you should check with her pediatrician as soon as you're able. it could be also be due to the fact that she may need to switch to a soy formula due to dairy issues. my son was switched to soy while we were breast feeding b/c we thought it was just the formula, and even after i changed my diet, he was still not doing well off my breast milk. he is currently on a soy diet and doing well! i hope this steers you in the right direction. good-luck!
