Hello! I just had my 4 month old son to see the public health nurse yesterday and she told us he's in the 97th percentile for his head circumference. This jumped from about 75th since his 2 month visit. She said its nothing to worry about, just means that his brain is growing but of course, I'm worried. Have heard that large heads can possibly mean autism or learning disabilities... Just wondering if anyone has had similar experience or knows something about this?

Hi my sister was told by the pead that her son had an abnormally large head when he was only abouyt 2 months but big forheads runs in her partners family, the doctor turned to my bro in law and asked if he could measure his head and told him he had an abnormally large head as well (my sister couldnt stop laughing but the BIL didnt find it funny hehehe) but anyway he doesnt have any learning disabilities if anything he is advanced as he is nearly walking and is is only just 7months now so I wouldnt worry too much about it unless he start showing signs that he has a learning dissability.

Look try not to worry babies have growth spurts, BUT my older son had a big head and yes he does have learning problems but its not always the case so try not to worry yet

hi try not to worry what about the rest of his growth where is he on centile chart for weight, height etc you need to look at his overall development .if nurse was worried she would have referred him to a paed you could ask for a refferal yourself to put your mind at rest
