Cade is 6 months old (7mo on the 10th of Jan.). He doesn't want his purees anymore, I've even bumped him up to Stage 3's and he still barely eats it! He does love big people food though. His pediatrician said we can start him on big people foods when he is 7-8mo. He is not sensitive to any foods other then his lactose intolerance which my fiancee and MIL both have. Would just continue to try and "force" the purees on baby or slowly give him small portions of big people foods? So far he has not had any junky foods! He loves the Gerber biscuits, banana mum mums, rolls, tiny pieces of ham, mashed potatoes which I dipped into the cream of cream corn, little pieces of green beans, rice (red rice & gondulaez, P.R. dish), I think that might be it. This is all stuff that was prepared at home from fresh foods. I would just like some in put from other moms as to what you would do...? He is refusing the purees and I can only get him to eat them every great once in a while!
Thanks mommies!

Cara, it is so hard for me cooking. I was able to cook with dairy for my hubby and if it was too much he would just suffer... lol. HIS choice!! I didn't force him.
But now with Cade eating our big people food I'm afraid to cook with dairy. Since I have stopped drinking dairy and stuff I not get a horrible tummy ache and I'd hate for Cade to get that tummy ache.
We get 1% milk on WIC and we wont get a lactaid milk until he is a yr old if I'm done breastfeeding by then. And we don't have the money to buy the lactaid milk, plus they seem to be small containers and cost more then cows milk. UGH! haha.
But thank you Cara, I was wondering what types of things to give him. I really gotta stop being lazy and make something other then hamburger helper for dinner, I doubt he can/should have this!

Heidi, I agree too extreme for me!

Check out Baby lead Weening. They give kids real food, and no baby food ever, and no spoon feeding. If the baby wants it he has to feed himself. Kind of extream we chose a middle ground

My daughter was the same way. As soon as she realized that REAL food tasted better than baby food she did not want baby food any more. I started her on things like applesauce, cheerios, rice krispies, baby yogurt and small pieces of banana for breakfast. For lunch she would eat things like cooked carrots(made sure they were nice and tender), small pieces of green bean, the kid sized macaronis such as the letters. For dinner if genera;;y just make sure that something I fixed was something that would be soft enough for her. She's now 2 and is and always has been a healthy girl. I rarely went by the "normal age" kids start things at, I always let her show/tell me when SHE was ready. :)

No reason you have to continue with baby food.. baby food isn't even necessary in my opinion. Commercial baby food is a modern invention ;)

Thank you all! I think we ruined the baby food for him when we tried some big people food at Thanksgiving, yes, he was only 5mo, but we gave him little pea sized pieces. After that he hasn't wanted to eat his mush.
I was just criticized for spoon feeding him cereal to help with his reflux and I found it hilarious that some of the moms criticizing me were telling me to put it in a bottle instead of spoon feeding it! HAHAHA! 1. He is breast fed! 2. It poses a huge chocking risk and nothing other then plain formula or breast milk goes in a bottle. 3. There is not difference except spoon feeding it is much safer.
But for some reason these moms thought that there was a difference between the two and the because it was spoon fed to him that he would become obese and have diabetes and BLAH BLAH BLAH!! Sorry! I guess I had to vent.

Well since I'm in the camp that thinks mush for babies is pointless anyway, I say go for it! If he wants real food I wouldn't be forcing mush on him at all.

I've started to do that with my seven month old. He still eats his baby food but i've given him oatmeal, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes! As long as baby can get it down without choking and you're watching him then it's fine to introduce him to food

I think you're doing a good job. I'd go on to pieces of food from your plate if that's what Cade wants. My grandma told me that's how she did it for all 8 of her kids.

I have 3 kids. I think that pureed foods are just practice foods to get them ready for "real" food. I think big people food is great as long as your baby can "chew" the small pieces. I mean he can move them around in his mouth and gum them up without choking on them and swallow them with no trouble. The other thing is to make sure he is getting a HUGE variety of foods. Food in all different colors. Also remember when you are trying a new one, do one new food every couple of days to make sure he isn't allergic. Don't worry about the baby food so much. It is an industry for money making. As long as he is getting enough variety to get all of his vitamins he will be fine! Good luck.
