My 3 month old daughter is starting to bite during breastfeeding. I have tried telling her no when she does it, but it just keeps happening. It's getting pretty painful. Has anyone experienced this and how did you stop it?

your 3 month old has no idea what the word no means. shes learning to suck effectively with more strength to get the milk out. if it really hurts. unlatch her, wait till she stops and relatch her again

You should not let her bite you, I know its painful! My son started biting me before he had any teeth, I would gently thump his cheek and say "no bite." I also would break his suction and take away my boob completely and wait a few minutes before I started feeding again. He learned very quickly not to bite me and when his teeth did come in, he never bit me at all, except for when there was alot of excitement going on, which I know was an accident. Once she gets the hint that your not giving any milk until she doesnt bite, she wont want to do it anymore! My MIL told me she would swat her kids on the head for biting!! But don't go to that extreme, lol, I just think thats funny now that my husband is grown. :) Good Luck, and happy feeding!

Try positioning her a diffrent way, she may no be laching on correctly her toung should protect you. I nursed all my children, my son occasionaly bit me at that age it was due to incorrect postitioning, Make sure she is latching on correctly and you should be ok. Dont give up, She will stop biting and settle down oh yea relax, that way your milk will let down, if your afraid shell bit you it wont. Good luck!

my daughter is almost 2months and she does that. and it seems all she wants to do is suck on my breast she use to use the pacifier but now for about 3weeks she doesn't want it. she gags when i give it to her. i try getting those toys but she gags on them too. she's just wants to use the breast as a teether. so i don't know what to do either.

what worked best for me and was recommended by my lactation consultant was to not take the breast away, or shout and scare baby but to push babies face into your breasts when she bites a little (so her nose and chin get pushed in and then let her fall back naturally dont pull her off though just let her head get to a comfortable spot for you and her) then she gets more of your breast in her mouth and she will not bite any more because it takes her breath away a little bit but its not scaring her.

when you shout or take your breasts away from baby after biting it will start to turn them off from nursing not just biting so you need to be careful because it can cause early self weaning before you and baby are ready. it only took 2 times for my son to bite me and of me pushing his face a little further onto/into my breast. works like a charm!

My baby started biting when he got his first teeth and it was shocking and painful every time he did it. I started putting my boob away when he would bite and saying "no no". If we were in the middle of a feeding I would just put it away long enough for him to realize then we would finish feeding. I did this for about two months and now he doesn't bite when he nurses. Good luck.

ouch!

definately don't stop it. they're learning how to use their mouth which is a good thing because thats when all the fun sounds start to come out. like d's and b's and y's and e's

you could try a pacifier or buy some of those textured chewy rings for her to play with(she should if she isn't already starting to hold onto things) so that your teet isn't the only thing she munches on, then it might not be so bad.

good luck!
