My son is a little over 4 weeks old and he is bottle fed. I use slow nipples and he still has copious amounts of formula running down his chin, is this normal? I have even purchased new nipples thinking the others were wearing out. Any thoughts?

We are having the same problem!!!! Sometimes it's the seal, but sometimes it's his latch! Especially lately since he has been stuffed up!!! We tried switching up to the next level of nipples because with our older son when that occured he was sucking too hard and it was pulling the seal from the nipple loose. Not the solution this time as then we had formula everywhere and he was choking on the rapid rate of flow. opps...

Thank you so much for your input. He does suck very hard. I will definately try sitting him up. Its good to hear that I'm not alone in this matter. :-) Thank you!

My sister's baby was the same way. I think it depends on how their mouths are when they're sucking from the nipple. You may need plenty of bibs though and because the formula drips, make sure you wipe his neck or it will smell when it dries up

Its normal, my baby is 8 weeks old and does the same. The slow teats help but she still dribbles. Can you hear lots of sucking noises when your son is feeding? i think my baby dribbles because she sucks so hard she gets too much formula to swallow at once (i breastfeed as well and i know just how hard she can suck!). Try feeding him sitting more upright too, on a recline. We also found that some brands of bottles are better than others, for us the tommee tippee ones that look like boobs (not sure what their called) work the best. It does get better as they get older, my 8 week old dribbles a lot less than she used to, i think its harder on you with all the extra washing than it is on them!
