c-section and 2nd pregnancy

My OBGYN told me I had to wait 18 mths to get pregnant again because of the c-section. I had a friend tell me that most doctors tell all their patients to wait 2 years between babies to give mom's body time to recover. I wanted to have my kids closer together. What have your doctors recommended? I am considering finding another OB if mine is being way too conservative.

My dr told me to wait 12 months before getting pregnant again. By that time your body should be back to normal - SHOULD be. If your dr doesn't want you get pregnant until 18 months, ask him why? And I would look into getting another OB since obviously you want someone you agree with. But, if this dr is a good doctor and feels completely right to you, except for this one little thing, do you really want to get rid of him? And what is he going to do if you do get pregnant before 18 months? Drop you as a patient? If that's the case you can find someone better anyway, just be smart about it and don't make a decision too hastily. What's 6 more months really? More time for you to spend with this little one, right?

My 2 boys are 22 months apart ( I got pregnant when he was 13 months) and I had no problems. I did have a second c-section because he was so big (9lbs 9oz) and I'm only 5.3" so that rule of a smaller baby didn't apply to me (my first was 8lbs 3oz). I wanted to try vbac but didn't because of the fear of rupture. Other than that my pregnancy was a piece of cake. It's a lot of work now with a 4 week old and an almost 2 year old but it will be great when they are older. Good luck!

As a general rule, you should probably hold off on trying to conceive again for 18 to 23 months
Studies have also shown that women who conceive less than six months after giving birth may have a higher risk for complications such as a ruptured uterus or a premature or low-birth weight baby.
That said, if you do get pregnant less than 18 months after a c-section, don't panic. Taking at least an 18-month break between births is a guideline designed to reduce your risk of complications, but many women get pregnant sooner and do just fine.
I have done a bit of research on this as I have a 8 month old who was delivered by c-section and I am now 6 month pregnant - whoops!!!!!! I can not try for a Vaginal Birth - this must be an c-section and I am high risk of premie and rupture. I would not suggest trying to get pregnant then 12 months after delivery.

My OB said he wanted me to not be pregnant for one year after my c-section. Good Luck!
