Circumsized, but looks like it's not....

My son is 6 and has extra skin. Every dr has said it was fine he would grow into it but he hasn't. It has gotten worse and get infected all the time. Yes we clean it it a lot but it still get infected. I'm going to see a specialist now and wish I would have listened to my gut and did it when he was younger.

I was reading these post because i have a 22 month old little boys that i had Cir. at the age of 3-4 weeks because he was borm with a hernia so they desided that they didnt want to have him go threw pain because they had to put him under for the surgery, and when they cir. at birth or shortly after it is painful they are awake for the whole thing :( So anhow shortly after it was healing i noticed that he had forskin it seemed like, and i got worried after time passed as it was not going away and I asked my son's surgen Y? He stated that he needed room to grow, Well I personally thought he ws full of shit, and thought that he screwed up!!! but now reading this I know he isnt the only one this has happen to, BUT now And for the last few weeks he has been complaining that winky hurts and the forskin somtimes gets really red and he grabs at it and squeezes his legs togather as not wanting me to clean him, as I pull his excess back EVERY diaper change, so im not exactly sure what is going on but if anyone has any suggestions I would Love to hear them please, I also have tried LESS juice and less fruit,new wipes,laundry soap bath soap, and taken him to the doctors and "OH he is fine " BULLSHIT he is not fine there is somthing wrong here ?!!!

I have to pull the skin back at least once a day to clean my sons, my husband says thats what you're supposed to do, & that he will grow into his extra skin, i wouldnt know, but i guess he would!

hey i know this post was made a long time ago and i put my two cents in , but i just wanted to appologize on me being rude , i was going through alot at the time , my son just had surgery and stuff and the bladder infections werent going away . but i had no reason to say anything about you and your son , that was your choice on getting him circumsized , every parent is different ..

My Baby Boy Is 8 months old(my first baby) and i got asked a lot if he is circumsized because it doesnt look like it because of the extra skin around it , i also have to push/pull the foreskin back to clean it and there is always fuzz or sumthing around it and the skin around it is always red , and he has a red ring around it also, so your not alone. lol , my mom said it is normal with boys that have all the extra skin around it so dont worry about it, ive talked to my doctor too.

there's nothing supporting or not supporting circumcisions.. personal choise.. and PERSONALLY, I thinnk uncirsumsized weewees are gross.. LOL.. I will totally get my boy done ((if ever we have one!)) and I'm sure he'll thank me for it!

Most uncircumsized boys/men get more bladder infections/UTI's because they don't take proper care of it ((or their parents don't)). It's just too much work not to get it done IMO!

Thanks Stephanie, it just makes me nervous that he will actually be in pain having something like that done when he is older... he showed no signs of pain after his circumcision, but I was still nervous to even hold him because I didn't want to put pressure on his dink. Also, keep in mind ... not every penis looks alike even before circumcision! I can say for a fact that neither of my boys' looked like the other one prior to circ or after circ either. My husband's penis doesn't look like anyone else's I've been with prior to meeting him either. We are all made in our own way and that includes the genitals. Just a reminder of that ... my son's "turtle" could look just like someone's who had a problem but his be fine because that's how his was made. I also have 2 nephews and I know that their penises don't look alike or like either of my 2 boys. As for circ vs uncirc ... seriously!?! Why does it always have to come down to that? It's just like breast or bottle feed ... there are good arguments on both sides of the issues but ultimately it comes down to a choice of what is best for mom AND baby! Don't judge someone just because their choices/beliefs are different than yours!!! That is the epitome of ignorance! If you can offer advice then give it ... otherwise keep your mouth shut about your opinions on how someone is wrong for not doing it your way!

Thanks ladies. The 3wk old I baby sat for was a skinny little guy so I guess that could explain why he looked circumcised and my bubby doesn't because he is chubby compared to Angelo (the bubby I baby sat for).

My youngest son was circumsized at birth, and he's had the purpleish coloring sometimes too. My hubby says it's normal. My oldest ( two and a half year old b/g twins) were born six weeks early and I guess my son didn't weigh enough to be circumsized when he was born. So after much fighting we finally got him circumcized at the end of August last year. I noticed the differences as your talking about as well. As for the fuzz.. that never happened to either of my boys.

However one of my nephews got cercumcized, and the dr doing it screwed up. He's going to be six next month and he is only half circumcized because of them screwing up twice, though I assume since your dr doesn't say anything about it that isn't the case.

my son is 17mos and i got questions all the time if he had been circumsized. He was it just takes a while for the baby fat to go away and then he will look normal. make sure you push his foreskin back on every diaper change otherwise the skin will start going back. i did not continually push it back and the dr had to pull it apart which caused my son some pain when he was a baby. :( also, if you dont continually push the foreskin back and wipe it and clean it while your giving him a bath you may see it get irritated and red around it.

my son was circumcised at 11 weeks, and now has alot of 'extra' skin where the penis is attached to the body. I took him to a dr and got referred to a hospital, but he just told me that his penis will grow into the extra skin?!. Out of interest if anyone actually reads this comment, has anyone else experienced this, and was the doc right? because personally i'd rather have him done again it really isnt pleasant to see!. xxx

My son was circumsized at birth. The doctor didn't take enough skin off and he had to have a revision at 6 months. We had to wait until six months old so he would be able to go under. My ped. looked at him at every apt and never said a word. I had to ask her about it. If he does need a revision he will have a few stitches in that area for a few days. My son handled it like a champ. I don't regret getting done for the second time. He will not remember it at all.

It's not an infection just some fuzz or whatever from the diaper gets caught in there and desitin, there is never anything in there anymore, but when he had his constant diaper rash I never put the desitin on it, but it still seemed to get in there.

my son was the same way and had to be recircumized at the age of 2.. our ped's doctor said that when they did the circumsion they didn't pull the skin enough.. it sounds like he has an infection... take him to another peds doctor. some insurance will not pay for this procedure..

Thanks Erica! I couldn't imagine if too much was taken off. All I know if that would have happened my OB (he did my son's circ) would have been shitting his pants from me and my fiancee being livid with him! haha.
One of the many reasons I got Cade circumcised was the fear of it needing to be done later in life for some medical reason. I can't imagine it is at all the same as when done in infancy.

I find Leanne to be rude as well. I worked in a medical records office in an old hospital. I purged many OLD records. i got the chance to read through many records of older men getting late-in-life circumcisions because of chronic bladder infections and their foreskin growing to where they couldn't pull it back to clean. After going through over 100 records in 1 small town hospital, I decided to circumsize my son. I wanted it done before it was medically necessary. My son also looks as though he was not circumsized (at times). I have to pull back his foreskin to clean on occasion. It's normal to have some build up. It's apparently called "smegma". It's just regular oils and dead skin that builds up. It's not necessary to clean it, but it can cause a smell. The red line is fine. That's normal. Many adult men have a distinct line when their penis is erect. You can see where it is more purple and then there is a line and it's more pale. Just be glad the doc didn't cut too much! I've seen news stories where that has happened! Scary! Don't worry about him, if there was something wrong, the doc would've said something. As mommies, we all worry!

Thank you Madelenie! I baby sat my friends 3wk old baby boy who is circumcised and I notice that you could definitely tell that he was circumcised. I really don't want him to have to go through a procedure now. I hope your baby boy is doing good now!? That has to be scary.

My experiance is that as soon as that 6th sense say "mmmm I wonder if this is right" it normally isn't. My son is circumsized and there is no extra skin over the head of the penis. I also know about the purplish colour, my son had that untill he got circumsized. We only circumsized him at 18months due to medical reasons so I noticed the colour variation. My gut tells me his circumsision didn't take enough skin off like your feeling is and that is probably why the colour variation is still there. Phone your pead and get a referal to a dif Paediatric surgeon for a second opinion. It is best to get this rectified before 9months.

It is perfectly normal becuz my son is the same and I asked our doctor, he said once he gets big enuf it will disappear its just becuz he is a baby that it looks that way but once he gets taller and puts on more weight it will stretch out

If you mean there is a purplish ring around it that is good you know you have been pulling it back far enough if you see that (I was told by my ped). I think it is the scar from the circ. The amount of skin removed depends on the doctor your son probably has a "loose circ" the doctor must of decided to leave a little more skin but I believe as he grows it will look less like it's uncircumscised. It is always better to leave a little too much skin instead of removing too much. Don't worry just keep it clean. I was told to pull it back and clean my son's until he was old enough to do it himself. I am about to go thru it again with my second son who is due anytime now.

Leanne, it is as simple as this! You should have stated that it was not infact from him not being circumcised. I'm not going to go onto name calling as you have because that is just ignorant and immature. But I will say that I talked with my son's pediatrician while I was pregnant and asked him about circumcised over uncircumcised. THE PEDIATRICIAN said that yes, uncircumcised in fact DO get bladder and UTI infections MORE then circumcised boys!
Next time explain yourself a little more and we wouldn't have this problem. If you don't want to explain yourself more then just don't say it at all!

Thanks. I didn't notice the line/seam before he was circumcised. It look like this skin was much lighter in color then it has been since he was circumcised.

When we chose to have our son circumsized the Dr told us that because he had a seam all the way up his penis she would have to take less of the foreskin off otherwise it could cause the penis to become curved and possibly result in urinary tract problems. Unfortunately, it looks like she took far to little... the top of his penis just looks like he still has some foreskin but then the bottom has a lot of extra skin which sort of looks like a beard... in fact my brothers have been referring as the "penis beard". When I spoke to my sons pediatrician he said that they could fix it with cosmetic surgery but we would have to wait for him to be 2 or 3 because he will have to be under general anesthesia... The red line you spoke of is probably like the seam my son has... but I haven't noticed the skin being any odd color... if it worries you, I would suggest bringing it up with your sons pediatrician...

Vanessa, I have nothing against non-circ moms! Uncircumcised males have a higher risk of infection and her not mentioning that his infections are for a different reason lead to me stating that my son has never had any sort of infection. I have talked to his pediatrician and I have asked him numerous times just to quadruple check and make sure it is in fact okay to push the skin back. His pediatrician always says yes it is fine! I don't "forcefully" push the skin back, I do so very gently and only as far as just past the tip so I can clean in there. I'm not pushing the skin all the way to the base. I am definitely asking at his next appointment if enough was not taken off, however!, if there was not enough taken off I will NOT have them snip anymore off unless it absolutely HAS to be!
Please don't take any of that as me being rude or what not because I really wasn't being rude! But with this discussion I know it is very easy to mistake how someone comes off with out being able to hear the tone in their voice! lol.

You are aware that a lot of those studies have also been disproven, right?
I would agree that babies in days when hygiene would have been an issue would have been at more risk for infections, but in days with running water, soap and basic good hygiene, the numbers are no where near as high.
Basically, cut or not, as long as there is proper hygiene and care, they are in the same risk category for bladder infections etc.

Vanessa, Studies have shown that uncut males are more likely to get bladder infections, also more likely to get STD's. I'm sure there are other things that factor into the higher risk (such as some not being taught how to properly clean it). I'm not saying that someone who chooses not to have it done is any better or worse than someone that did get it done, I was simply stating what research has shown. Also not saying that is why the person with an uncut baby ended up having a baby that got a bladder infection and the persons with a circ baby didn't. I was just making a point about the fact that if research had been done on the subject the person with the uncut child should know that and know how that idea may have occurred.

ok, i'm going to ask, and probably hate myself, but what does him being circ'd have to do with him never having a bladder infection? I have three un-cut boys and non of them have had infections (bladder or other wise)
I realize you were probably just getting frusterdated because you were met with a snarky comments, but that doesn't mean you have to be snarky back. Some of us non-circ moms aren't half bad ;) We just made a choice, just like you did.

Now, on to your question, i understand he was circ'd but if it wasn't done right then i wouldn't be forcibly moving the skin without first consulting the dr, just in case it does damage. I would definitely take him into the dr and find out whats going on.

Naomi, I was doing it at every diaper change because I'm also afraid of the foreskin attaching to the tip and stuff. But it got all read and swollen like so I stopped doing it so frequently.

My son's pediatrician said it was very common these days for doctors to do kind of a half circumcisions. She went on to tell us that she'd had to do several re-dos on infants b/c OBs weren't doing them "right." So, she required that she do our sons circumcision in order to get it "perfect the first time" (she said). My son has always looked pretty perfect down there in my opinion, and I'd never describe it as a turtle... BUT, I know what you are talking about. The little boy I nannied looked like he had kind of a half circumcision too. So, I think it's pretty common.

My almost two year old son is circumsized and my doctor has said to always pull back the foreskin or otherwise it will start to grow back. And then you will need to get it done all over again! I have to admit I was not the best at this and sometimes it would start to look like he was not circumsized because the foreskin would start to stick back to the penis. I actually had to take my son in twice to the doctor and she had to pull the skin back down and clean it! Those were Not very good doctors visits!! Ever since then I always pull it back at least once a day and after each bath I like to put Aquaphor lotion on it. It helps to keep it lubricated and from sticking. The red line is from when they did the incision. It's fine. Just make sure you keep pulling the foreskin down and cleaning it. You will have to do this until your little boy learns how to do it on his own. (oh the fun!!) The joys of having a boy never end!!

I would just like to add that the last time i saw my midwife, she told me it was very important to keep pullling that skin away from the head at every diaper change, for it could grow back a little. And with every diaper change I clean it well, pull it back, and let it dry completely before putting on a diaper. I sit there for at least 5 minutes letting his wing wang get some fresh air, sometimes even 15-20 mintures of fresh air!!!
