Hi everyone, I have a 3 week old baby boy and i have been giving him the Enfamil D Vi Sol Vitamin D drops once a day and it seems that every time i give it to him he get extremely fussy and cry's for hours is this normal? I have tried feeding him before i give him the drops and after to see if it makes a difference and it doesn't matter if its before or after a feeding. PLEASE HELP! for now i have stopped giving him the drops.

also if i feed him just formula instead of breast feeding does he need the drops?

thanks!

i had no choice but to switch to formula because of my migraines and the medication that i am on right at the moment, the dr told me under no circumstances can i breastfeed him while on these pills.

and for the Vitamin D drops they were giving him bad pains in his tummy and making him VERY fussy so i will for sure talk to my dr and see what his opinion is on that.

thanks ladies :)

Oh and do NOT switch to formula just so you don't have to give him the drops. Continue breastfeeding and make sure you eat good (you don't have to become a health freak).

I breast feed my son and I stopped giving him the drops because they made him constipated and he has reflux and is lactose intolerant. He has had no problems at all w/out taking them! Talk with his pediatrician if you would like, but I honestly don't think every baby needs them! My daughter is almost 5yrs old and I did not give her the drops and she has been fine. Also, I told my son's pediatrician I was not going to give him the drops anymore and he said that was fine, but the pediatrician who put my son on the drops insisted on them. Every doctor will tell you to do something different! But why put him through those tummy pains if it is not life and death! You know!

i have read that all human beings should be supplemented with vit D, our ped and family doctor also agreed with this...even formula fed babies because the vit d in formula, like most of nutrients in formula, are not absorbed efficiently/completely by the body.

have you tried instead of giving it all in one dose, maybe breaking it up into 2 or 3 doses throughout the day? there is also a product called "D Drops" that i've heard work better for breastfed babies because all you have to do is put one drop onto your nipple, then let baby latch on for the feeding and that one drop contains the daily dose.
