my daughter is about 8 months old. she has always slept really well in her crib -at night AND at nap time. and all of a sudden (probably about a month ago) she stopped sleeping in her crib for naps. she still sleeps fine at night. she won't fall asleep in her crib and will wake if we put her in her crib during the day. i don't understand it. could it be because it is bright in there during the day or something else? i'm pretty frustrated by it and welcome any suggestions! thank you!

thank you for your help renae! i kept trying to put her in her crib every other day and finally yesterday she stayed asleep! yay! i think it was just a phase. the dark curtains did not help at all. i am just so glad that she is sleeping in her crib again... actually she is right this second! lol

i sure hope it is just a phase! i am going to try curtains that will make it darker. she naps for an hour at 10, 2, and 6. i think she is right on track with the nap times. i just can't figure it out! thank you!

It could be because it is bright, or there is some other stimulation like a noise from the neighbours that is not present at night. You can try eliminating all stimulation and putting up heavy curtains to block out most of the light.

It is likely though just one of those phases babies have that we never quite figure out. I would let her sleep where she will sleep, day naps are important to maintain good sleep at night. And every week or so try putting her in her crib until she finally agrees to go back in there. Also make sure she is not becoming overtired and having difficulty settling in her crib because she associates it with lying still and going to sleep - something that is normally a good thing, unless the baby is becoming overstimulated and overtired.

At around 7 months many babies start to need a very early nap, around 45 minutes after first getting up and if they miss this nap they have difficulty sleeping for the rest of the day. Normal napping for an 8 month old would be 3 naps per day, of 1-2.5 hours each and she should be awake for no more than 3 hours at a time, sometimes 2 hours.
