Did anyone's baby measure larger than dates during pregnancy?

I measured everywhere from 3-8 weeks bigger, got 6 extra ultrasound, was told of the possibility of preterm labor, I was worried about gestational diabetes among other things!!…turns out she was perfectly normal, I did have to get a c-section but it was bcuz of the way her head was turned …she weighed 8lb 4oz and was born on her due date :) no problems!!

When I was 16 weeks she was measuring in the 80th percentile and then 5 weeks later measuring in the 60th percentile I don't know if its all that accurate... ultrasounds can be a little off in my case I'm confused because I was 21w and 5d and she was measuring 2 days ahead..

Alright so Im12 weeks and they told me my baby was measuring at 12cm....does this seem like too big for a 12 week old baby?

With my son I always measured 4 weeks ahead of dates.
I measured 6 weeks ahead with my daughter at 18wks, 5wks ahead at 24wks, 4.5wks ahead at 31 wks, 3wks ahead at 34wks and 2wks ahead at 39wks. My son was born weighing 8pd 3 and my daughter weighed 8pd exactly. Fundal height isn't an accurate measurement and it can change each minute, hour, day, week and month depending on what position the baby is in. Don't worry about it too much :)

Both of my kids measured farther along by at least a week (depending on when), but my son was born 2 days before my due date weighing 7lbs 7oz, and my daughter was born 2 days after my due date weighing 8lbs 11oz. My current baby is also measuring about 2 weeks bigger, but I'm sticking with the due date I figured up.



And if it means anything, I weighed the exact same thing when I delivered both of my kids and they were a whole 1lb different in size. So I'm not sure your weight gain has much to do with it either...

I always have! I'm on baby #4 (and final) and even when the doctor calculated my pregnancy due date, my babies were always ahead in growth. I'm 31 weeks now, and my girl is a full 3-4 weeks ahead in growth. Her older brothers were all big (10lbs. 20z, 9lbs. 4oz., and 8lbs. 7oz....only because he was 2 weeks overdue). I know there's no way she's going to slow down in growth even after she's born. I hardly ate anything with my second son, and only slightly more with the third. My girl weighs about 5 lbs. right now, when she's only supposed to be no more than 4. I've always looked big with my babies. My doctors have never seen any problem with this and all were born just fine. I'd rather be obviously pregnant than to be ready to deliver and have people still not believe I'm pregnant.

In due course of pregnancy it so happens that sometimes you are told that you are ahead and sometimes you are behind! It shouldnt be linked with any worry or abnormality. Its oh so normal .. I am sure you will have a happy healthy baby!

when i had a 34 wk scan my girl's head was 4wks over, her leg length was 2 wks over and her abdomen circumference was a week over. she was born on her due date at 7lb 13oz and while her head has remained in the 97th percentile she's otherwise about average.

maybe your bubba is just gonna be a 'tall' baby; that's really all they're gonna be able to feel, anyway - length.

I measured anywhere between 5-7 weeks ahead and my daughter was just born weighing in at 9lbs 5.6oz and 22inches long.

I measured large throughout my pregnancy and had the exact same fear. I had no health issues either. My doctor just told me that my baby was bigger and that I shouldn't worry. A week before my due date I had an ultrasound done and they estimated that my baby would be over 10 pounds. I ended up giving birth to a healthy 8 pounds, 4oz baby boy!! Hope this helps!!! My uterus was measuring larger than dates from about week 14 too...i didnt gain an exuberant amount of weight...i watched what i ate and excerised until 37 weeks...Uriah was born 10days before his due date weighing 10lbs 1oz. My dr. said it was in his genes to be a big baby...I had a c-section because the ultrasound said he was measuring 42 weeks at 38 weeks! (and weighing 11lbs but 4 days later he was born at a VERY healthy 10lbs) Like you, I was very concerned with having a big baby but being healthy is what really matters, right? And my 10lber is still a little baby! good luck, and don't worry!!!

yes i always measured larger and my baby girl weighed 9lbs 4.2 ounces 19inches long and i wuz 39 wks. also my son wuz born at 35 wks and he weighed 7lbs 7ounces and i measured large with him as well. Looks like u mite be having a large baby also!!!!

I never had an estimation regarding the size of my baby other than the tummy measurements they did every time I had a check-up with my OB, which were always just fine, as was my weight gain. However, my little man came a week late, required an induction to get things started, and I ended up with a c-section. The reason he never dropped: my "little" man weighed 10lbs 4 oz! I did not have diabetes or a history of big babies in my family...

yeah my son measured about 2 weeks larger than i was expected so induced and at 38 weeks he was 8lb 3oz and 20 1/2 inches long a very healthy baby!

My baby was actually smaller than the dates but, my doctor was very sure about how far along I was give or take a week only. In my 3rd trimester, 4 days before my baby came, the doctors said my baby was going to be between 3-4 pounds. if I had her within the week. She turned out to be 5 pounds 6 ounces.



Be thankful that your child is growing. Some babies are bigger/smaller than others and it's ok. Measurements in utero are not all that accurate. I have had friends think they are going to give birth to huge babies and have had average size kids and vice-versa.

My dOctor told me i was have a 7/8 pound baby. However when my angel paige was born she was 47cm long 5pound 6. 1/2 ounces so try not to stress to much until your closer to having the baby :)

I always measured big - at 28wks I measured 35!!! I had extra growth scans done and was closely monitored, and was told to expect a 10-11pounder. In the end I had a natural delivery and my daughter was 9lb 6oz - still big but much smaller than expected.
Measurements of fundal height and ultrasounds are only guides. It's nothing to worry about.

Hi i was always measured big for dates and was told at 36 weeks pregnant that my baby was 7lb4oz then so would be aroung 8/9lb but she was born 6 days early at 6lb6oz! tiny little thing, so i would worry too much. good luck

With my recent pregnancy, according to my OB, when I was at 28 weeks, baby was at around 32 weeks (per the ultrasound). On the other hand, with my first, they said I was having a small baby and he ended up being 10 pounds...so I think they will be whatever they will be and you won't know until they are born.

I think it may be the way the baby lays. I measured right on the whole way, but kept telling the doc when I stood up I had alot of pain and that the baby felt heavy. My doc told me it was normal and did 6 ultra sounds trying to see the sex of the baby and still told me that my baby would weigh about 7lbs, and would not induce even though I went 10 days over with my first. When she was born 7 days late with the help of induction she was actullay 9lbs 3oz. So measurements are very aprox.

The measurements they do are VERY approximate. 3-4 weeks off should be fine I would think. I'm sure she would have said something about it if it were a concern. Babies grow at different rates too. A better guess for your baby's birth weight would be to look at the weights of your mom's and sister's babies. I measured 1-2 weeks ahead and had the baby a week early naturally and the baby was average size.

First i was told that i had too much amniotic fluid, then on my due date i measured 4 weeks behind and was told they wouldn't be inducing me as my baby was too small, he came 3 days later and was a perfect 7lb :) Somehow i don't think its an exact science...

With my second daughter I was measuring 14 days ahead of my original due date. She came a week and half early from my new due date and she weighed 7lbs 5oz. And we thought she was going to be a nine pound baby.

I was the same with my first baby. We'd had extra scans to check kidney function and each time they asked if I was sure of my dates (yes I was) and scared he living daylights out of me with how big this baby might be. She was 8lb, not huge at all. One radiologist estimated 10lb. Baby will be what it will be. Good luck.

dont worry to much ive had the same problem when i was pregnant with my son. his measurements were 9 weeks in advance i went into labor 2 weeks late and he was only 7lb 6oz. measurements dont mean much as long as the baby is healthy and happy who cares how big it is right?

I measured about 3 weeks ahead from 20 weeks onward :)

I was the same as Rachel, my baby was apparently going to be "huge" and was born 8lb7oz, which is on the healthier side of normal. But definitely wasn't as big as they were expecting.

I wouldn't worry at all!! It seems to happen a lot :)

Yes! I always measured 2-3 weeks ahead. My 36 week ultrasound estimated him in the 90th weight percentile, so I had a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks. And guess what? He only weighed 7 lbs! Which is very small for a boy! So don't give your measurments a second thought. Mine were very inaccurate.
