Hi Danelle, I'm a type 1 diabetic and have been for 15 years. I delievered a very healthy baby girl 7.5 months ago and my sugars were not always very good! This late in your pregnancy a slightly elevated (8.2) blood sugar is really not as scary as the literature makes it out to be. Your Ob will send you for a glucose tolerance test and should monitor your sugars each week until you deliver, If your sugars are elevated ask your Ob to also send you to a nutricianist (you'll probably be sent to an endocrinologist) to help you avoid high carbohydrate foods (read your labels!!) and start walking every day!! You can stick to the diet after your pregnancy to help shed the baby weight. Good luck and don't stress.

Thanks heaps and will do hopefuly know everything on tuesday and go from there its just a bit of a shock to have 2 normal pregancy and then this but i guess it happens but i have been doing lots of research and have writen a lot down so thanks again still a lil scary but i cant stress not good either.

I had Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant last year and as far as I can make out it's a usual part of the last stage of pregnancy as this enables the baby to gain weight. Problem is some people can't deal with the placenta producing the hormone to inhibit how our insulin works so then we end up with Gestational Diabetes. I also had a friend who continually had sugar in her urine samples taken at each ante natal appointment, but she never developed Gestational Diabetes.
I'd just suggest taking it easy on the sugar front (I was advised not to eat more than 1 portion of fruit at a time even due to the high level of fructose) just eat as healthily as you can and make sure you stick to some low GI foods because they take that little bit longer for your body to process and make you feel less hungry for longer. I stuck to a completely diabetes friendly diet and I had to monitor my blood sugar levels 6 times a day and it was fascinating how I reacted to certain types of foods (some really sent my blood sugar sky high even when they were considered to be lower in sugars).
So I just say be careful and try not to worry too much.

Yeah i will i think they are re doing my glucose test again to see what that says again and i have to wait till tuesday to see where we got to go from here. Also well i was up at the hospital my heart rate was very high and came down a lil but they said i need to reat could that have anything to do with diabetes i still feel tight in the chest and a lil short of breath

you need to make sure you tell your dr ,cause if you do have diabetes you need to take exta care of yu rself and the baby .you will have to stop all surger i had diabetes and i went to every dr apt i had ,even extra fluid check and to check the placenta ,ultra sounds ..you might have to re do the test ,do it .make sure you tell your dr what you ate that day , when i had my urion checked at drs ,my came high to and all i had was frosted flakes ..go on line and check some web sites for gastional diabetes .

Stop using sugar and use Agave Nectar. It is natural and sweet.
