My little girl screams and cries everytime she does a poo and for about 10 mins after whether its firm or runny. Has anyone else had a baby that does this? Why do they do it and how do you help them? The paed said she may have a rectal fissure but shes been like this for a month now

@Carol - is your lo exclusively breastfed? If so, it's most likely a sensitivity to dairy or caffeine. Your doc actually said because you weren't drinking enough water??? Crazy... I can send you some links if you want.

sounds like a rectal fissure...untill it (a small t ear due t o a large or hard bm)heals it will still hurt her...i personall had one when i was pregos and took mths to heal...didnt matter hard or soft...my LO had one aswell. but maybe do a little research and make sure nothing more serious could be causing her cries.

My 6 1/2 yr old grandson had that problem from the time he was born until he was about a year and a half. we had to to so many drs it wasn't funny. of course he would not pull that in a drs. waiting room or the er so they all made me feel like we was exadurating. I agree it doesn't matter if there bms are runny, soft or hard. We never did find out why he was like that and he grew out of it and is fine today. sorry i know thats not much help, but u are not alone.

I know it sounds grose but have you stretched out the skin around her lil bum hole? Have a close look are there little cuts? Thats our problem Its called anal fissure there are alot of home methods that can help them heal but if theyre there and shes been doing it for this long you might need more help to get her better. Google the name all the info you need comes up

I have the same problem. I breastfeed my daughter and at first she was okay but once she got to 1.5 mos when ever she had to poo she cried. I took her to a pedi that works with her actual pedi and he told me I wasn't drinking enough water but I was. She's still doing it and I even give her water in a bottle and pedialyte to help. Can anyone help?

Thankyou so much. I should mention that i just discovered several tears around her anus so that explains it and yes i do blame the soy as it did make her poos firmer and only started once changed to. The trouble is normal formula makes her reflux so much worse and were back to where we started. Ive tried getting hold of the paed for more neocate but havnt heard back and so shes back on soy. It makes me so angry my poor lil angel has to suffer like this

Jasmine was only on the soy formula for about a day and a half. As soon as we put her back on her original formula, she was fine again. This was a few months ago, but from what I remember, she had about three BMs which made her cry during, and they were more solid than usual, so perhaps she was a little constipated from it, and she was back to normal after we switched her back. Less than a day-half a day I think. Hope your little one's issuues are soon resolved. It sucks when they are in pain and pleading with their little eyes for you to make it disappear and you can't :(

Actually yes it did happen once she was put on soy. Our dr told us to try her on it because she suspected CMA, her reflux symptoms were terrible on normal formula even with losec. Our paed agreed with her about the CMA but didnt think soy was the way to go as up to 50% of babies are also intolerant to soy. As you are saying i think. Did you notice an immediate change when you changed back? I only ask because i just rang and left a message with our paed as he had trialed her on pepti junior which helped her poop but made her reflux symptoms worse (this formula is still cow milk based) and also a tin of neocate lcp but the tin was so small and only lasted 2 days. It cleared up all other symptoms but she still had one painfull BM on it so i have just asked for two more tins to give her a decent go on it. Neocate LCP has no dairy or soy proteins at all. So if thats the problem it should help. Would be good to know how long it took you to see results once changed back though

Hi Belinda,

Did you switch her formula by any chance? This happened to my girl when we switched from milk-based to soy-based formula when her brand was sold out. Apparently, babies can be very sensitive to soy formula and shouldn't be given this unless they are allergic to milk-based formula. I noticed it right away, and we immediately switched her back.
