Does anyone know if stripping your membranes will actually put you into labor?

I went into false labor last week, but they sent me home from the hospital until my contractions were stronger or my water broke. It has been a week already, and nothing has been progressing. My family doctor suggested that I come in tomorrow to get my membranes stripped. I am 39 weeks and 3 cm dilated so far, but my contractions have pretty much stopped since they sent me home from the hospital and now all i have is really really painful cramps. Did stripping of the membranes help for anyone and mostly what i'd like to know is if it put you into labor? I'm really hoping this will work, it's been really painful over the last week and I just want to hold my little girl already!

(yay!) i only had 2 more days then i would have been 14 days overdue.. so im glad i didnt have to get induced!

They stripped my membranes once I was overdue and it did nothing for me. It does help some people sometimes and other it does nothing. It varies from person to person. You won't know until you have it done

I personally recommentd it!! I was a week overdue and I went into the OB, she stripped my membranes and by 9 the next morning I was having contractions and going into labor by 6 o'clock that night! Good luck!

I had my membranes stripped with my first 2 babies and the next day I had them! I think there is a high chance of it working for you so relax and take it easy, its more likely to go well if your not stressed!

I had mine stripped at 39.5 weeks, and didn't go into labour for another week. I think baby will come when they are good and ready. Be patient--it will happen--get your sleep while you can!!!!

I had my membranes stripped at 40 weeks and went into labor like a day and a half later. Patience is the key here and I know that's reaaaaaalllllly hard. But labor will go a lot smoother if you just give your little girl her time to enter the world. This is the last time she will ever be inside your womb, so enjoy it while you can - but I know that's hard! It may work, it may not. Every woman and baby is different.

The day I went into labor I had no contractions. I went to the midwife, she stripped my membranes, and I went into labor about 5 hours later. I think you have a good chance of it working since you are already 3cm. I was 4cm when they stripped mine. Good Luck!
