Hi everyone! my little baby girl is turning 3 months next week and we've noticed that she does not really get startled at loud sounds. She was fascinated by the television the other night and my husband tried to get her attention by calling her name... I know that she is still too young to know that it's her name being called, but she didn't really turn her head and she didn't get startled either - not even when my husband clapped really loudly.

Do you think it's because she's too absorbed in the bright flashing and movement from the t.v or is it development-related? Just wondering whether other mums have experienced this with their own children? She passed her hearing screening test in hospital. She is otherwise fine and doing a whole lot of other things children her age are doing.

Sometimes, I just need someone else's reassurance too. It's nice to have others to talk to... the computer helps so much! :)

haha - thanks Alice! Just needed some reassurance. She gets very absorbed when she sees the t.v. I have heard her babbling baby talk just recently - it came out in a long conversation out of the blue :)

It differs with different kids. My oldest would tune us out on purpose even as a baby. She's now 6 & excells at studies. My 4-year-old would look at everything as a baby but didn't get startled easily. My 2-year-old would giggle and scream back at loud noises as a baby. My 5-month-old takes everything in stride, but will look for the source of the noise.
Sounds like your little one is either too fascinated by the bright colors or she's learned how to play the "pretend to ignore mommy & daddy" game. :)
If her hearing test went okay and she's otherwise all right, I wouldn't be worried; she might just be soaking everything up so that when she can talk, she'll have lots of questions to ask!
