I had troubles breastfeeding my first born becase he was such a lil moose. (Almost 11 pounds at birth!) Eat lts of protien and plenty of liquids. Warm drinks are very good. Offer the breast often and pumping is good too. In Canada there is a drug called Domparadom. It increases breast milk. Good luck to you!

I was told that you should drink a lot of water and it would help keep your milk production up.

Don't feel to bad if you cannot get your milk supply up.. Sometimes it just happens.. However, if you want your baby on breast milk you can always look for someone to do it for you!
My mom couldn't breastfeed me so she hired a lady to breastfeed me for her... She tells me funny stories like the lady would have her son on one side and me on another! Anyways, it's something to look into if you really would prefer breast milk over formula. :D

Jocelyn lol...thanks, I think that medication the doc gives contain fungreek. But can have some unwanted side effects, see Kellymom link that I posted previously :) Well for one thing Amber normally breastfeeding goesnt get fully established until 6-8 weeks after birth so just keep trying...Have you tried herbal remedies? Loads of mums sware by fungreek. If you want to carry on BF, try to relax, when you think too much you will get stressed, unableing your body to do what it needs to do and its the same in all walks of life with things stress associated. Have you checked for plugged ducts???

i've tried to chang emy diet, try pumping every couple hours.. nothing. its so strange. i guess its just one of those things that happen for no known reason. i dunno.im not producing at all. i know formula isnt the end of the world, but i was so excited that i was breast feeding. not enough people do it and i was able to so i did. my sister stopped producing after 6 months and she was on medication to help her produce. i didnt want to have to do that and BAM i just stopped producing. i spent 2 weeks trying to get production back up and flowing but nothing has worked. its a bummer than i actually want to and cant. and then the people that dont want to can produce like crazy. i guess its just one of those things about life that just isn't fair

Michelle gave all the ideas that I was going to say! lol Aside from those natural remedies, there is a certain medication that you can take. I'm not sure of the name, but your doc should know.

Is there nothing there or can you get something out? Has your little girl been putting on weight? Try 'Mother's milk', Fenugreek, or some others listed below...http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/milksuppl...

Low quality of milk can be cause by medications or a poor diet, many antibiotics contaminate the milk and a diet high in caffeine may cause colics and sleeping problems. For the baby it is very important that the the mother keeps eating a well balance diet after giving birth, and preferably foods with no traces of pesticides these poisons become highly concentrated in the milk.

The use of a breast pump may inhibit the production of milk, lowering the amount available to the baby, this gives the false idea that the infant should be change to formula in order for him to be satisfied, when in fact the problem is the quantity of milk that the mother is producing.

Eat alfalfa or take it in capsules, it stimulates lactation, improves quality and quantity of milk.

* Chaste tree Increases flow of milk, by affecting pituitary's prolactin secretion.

* Chinese use a herb called codonopsis to increase lactation and strengthen the blood.

* Goat's rue this herb has been used by midwives for hundreds of years to improve breast milk production by as much as 50%.

* Vervain encourages milk secretion and flow, it also increases absorption of nutrients from food and helps with postpartum depression.

Dont listen to people telling you you need to switch to formula. Try every possible route you can to increase your supply. Kepp putting baby on the breast no matter what, even if shes just useing it as a pacifier, this will help send signals to the brain to produce milk.
Hope it works out and you get to carry on breastfeeding. Keep strong.

Sometimes it just happens hun and it is a case of bottle feeding. I bottle feed due to medication im on but its a good job because i never even started producing milk so i wouldnt have been able to feed my little girl at all. If you are worried speak to your health visitor and she can advise you better.
