Eczema on my 6 month old's face. Nothing helps except steroid creams...

My 6 month old son has eczema on his cheeks. It's not extremely severe, but it bothers him tremendously. Sometimes he can rub and scratch so hard that it bleeds. I keep his fingernails short and I've tried mittens but those get soaked in drool or pulled off. I took him to the pediatrician twice and he prescribed hydrocortisone. This clears it up completely but can only be used for 5 days. After the 5 days it comes back worse, but eventually calms down a little with numerous, at least 10, applications a day every day of an aloe and calendulum based baby eczema cream. Does anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Did you doctor tell you not to use any soaps or baby shampoos in his bath water? Also wash all his stuff including sheets and towels in a sensitive skin baby laundry liquid. My son had terrible eczema on his torso and arms and my doctor gave me some sample packs of a product called Natralia Nourish Eczema & Psoriasis Wash and Moisturizing Cream, it’s made from aloevera, calendula, chamomile, lavender and other essential oils and it cleared his skin up almost immediately. I find dressing my baby in only 100% cotton has helped as well.

My youngest had this problem too. I had to keep all soaps, lotions and detergents fragrance free and keep Aquaphor (or something similar) on the problem areas in between flare ups. I later on found out she has peanut and dairy allergies. Eczema is a lot of times a sign of allergies. She grew out of the eczenma by time she was 1. Also becareful of infection. Flare ups are vulnerable to impetigo. Good luck!

I had that problem my daughter when she was 7 months old. I found an all natural lotion at crazytimescandles.com that worked wonders.
