Ah yes...I also used nipple sheilds...but only for a couple of days until my nipples healed up a bit. I found them tricky to use and quite a fuss...much easier to just feed without them...plus my babies didn't fancy them too much either!! I also found my milk supply decreased as my nipples weren't getting stimulated enough with the shields on.
You shouldn't get thrush again unless you stop treatment before it had totally gone. I have only just finished treating my last baby for oral thrush and will be keeping a close eye on his tounge after every feed for a couple of weeks. Keep treating you and your baby for at least 1 week after the thrush has gone....(advice from my husband, who works in a Pharmacy)

We just started the medication yesterday for her. Luckily I have not gotten it because I use a nipple shield. You may want to use that to prevent reinfection, plus I fine it a lot less painful to use that than to have her have a direct latch.

ohhh yeah...been there twice!!! The first time the thrush didn't get picked up for weeks...I had cracked, sore nipples...to the point where I had tears while feeding!! I can't remember excatly how long it took to heal up...but it did...I think it was about 1 week before I started feeling better...I had it bad!!! The thrush in her mouth seemed to take forever to go. The next baby had it too...but I knew what to look out for and picked it up quickly...my breast/nipples only got a little sore and I got over that quickly. Don't give up on the feeding ...it will pass and you thank yourself for not giving up.

My doc prescribed diflucan, a pill form of the same stuff you give orally to baby. Call her up and ask for a scrip and it will be better in no time!
