I completely agree with Nicole Wescombe! I'm a dietitian and a baby of 7 weeks are suppose to feed every 3 hours....it is normal! Very important....only breastmilk or infant formula should be given and is all that the baby needs until he/she is 4-6 months old. The baby's stomach is only the size of his/her fist and cannot ingest a large amount of fluid at a time, hence the frequent feeding. My baby boy wanted to breastfeed every 2 hours to 2 1/2 hours for a long time (especially during growth spurts....I just had to feed him as that was what he "demanded." At times I felt so miserable, but I knew it was what he needed. Just hang on...it gets better - before you know it, your little one will be settled in a more predictable routine. (My son is 6 months old now)

hi, I starting BF with sam and he was doing the same in the end i had had enough, he was waking every 1-2hours for a fed and i couldnt produce asmuch as he was asking for in the end i went to formula milk and he started to sleep 4-5 hours by 10weeks old the first stage of formula wasnt filling him up he was asking for a fed every 2-4 hours so i changed his milk to aptimil hungier baby stage 2, by 11weeks old he starting sleeping through from bedtime between 8pm-10pm till 6am-8am so nites he still wakes for a fed bout 3am but very rarely,

im not saying completely come off breast milk if you are BF, but do a mix of BF in the day and try a formula of a night

i also changed the nappy brand i was using for bed, i was using the sainsburys brand and he didnt sleep aswell till i changed to asda brand (little angels) or pampers they are very similar and sams more happier....hope this helps...remember its all trial and error ...im a first time mom and still learning...you will get here :)

good luck

Vicki, I really don't think anyone is "biting your head off". People are just trying to help. I understand you wanting her to sleep longer, are you BF?

It is a fallacy that putting rice cereal in a bottle will make a baby sleep longer. Besides that, it is a choking hazard, and you LO is ONLY 7 weeks, some babies (very few) sleep through form that age, but at 7 weeks this is quite unusual. Give it time, it will happen. Your LO is not ready for food yet, at 7 weeks a baby's digestive system is to immature to handle anything other than BM or formula. Even when your LO is ready for solids, give it to her on a spoon.

Also just saw that you are from the gong, me too. Have you seen your nurse or dr for your 8 weeks check up yet? When you do ask her about it, but i know if you have the same one as me, she would of had a heartattack if i even suggested putting farex in the bottle. but if your not sure she is the best person to ask.

She is only 7 weeks old, at that age it isnt and shouldnt be expected for a baby to sleep through the night. Yes some do, but its pure luck. Also if your daughter cant sit up and eat off a spoon, then their not ready for it. Their tiny digestive systems are not ready for food at that age. She may also be going through a growth spurt, but my LO was eating every 4 hours up until 6 months when we started solids.

your baby's belly is the size of their fist. they can't hold much food. as they grow, they hold more, and sleep longer. ok, some kids are the exception to this rule, but at 7 weeks, i wouldn't expect your baby to sleep more than 3-5 hours at a time...actually, if it was me, i'd freak out if my daughter slept longer.

My daughter is now 13 weeks and has been sleeping thru the night since she was about 6 weeks... I put her to bed at about 8 in the evening and she sleeps until around 7 am most nights without waking up... Although once in a while she will wake up in the middle of the night to feed... I give her a 4oz bottle of Enfamil A.R. Lipil which has rice startch in it so it keeps her full longer right before bed time... I hope that helps...

Sometimes when she needs to eat more frequently I dilute her formula because she may just be thirsty not hungry... My daughter chokes on plain water so I put like 1/4 of a scoop of formula into 2oz of water... Hope that helps! Good luck!

i dont think she is ready to sleep through the night yet. the parents that have babies that sleep through the nite are considered LUCKY !! i wouldnt be putting anything other than milk in her bottle she is way to young for that stuff.

my little girl just turned 1 on jan 23 and she still wakes up at least once a nite for a bottle. every baby is different and not all babies sleep through the nite. she still needs you for comfort and love.

im sure you tired and i remember those days when she was little and the best advice i can give you is to sleep when she sleeps even if that means taken afternoon naps.

its best to get a bedtime routine on the go as well. for ex : a warm bath or sponge bath an hour before bed every nite. lavender baby lotion to rub her down and if you have a rocking chair then snuggle her up and rock her for about 15 mins with the lights out and maybe some soothing music and put her to bed.

i dont think shes quite redy to sleep through the nite my sons 4 mo and still gets up once a nite for a feed if you are realy quiet and make no noise then wrap bubby back up after the feed they will drop back off to sleep... my son is still fed every 4 hours unless its that once off nite where he wont wake for that nite time feed but he is up very early to make up for it lol your lill one will get there but its going to take time and if you do some research you will find that farex or any other type of food its not suitable for babys under 6 months old :) good luck hang in there it will all work out in the long run

She is only 7 weeks old, she shouldn't be having any form of food other than BM or formula in her bottles. Their digestive systems can't handle it. Plus all it is is empty calories in their tummies.

It also depends on which definition you take on 'sleeping through the night?

Newborns to roughly 6 mths sleeping through the night means up to 5 hrs at a time between feeds.

At 7 weeks old they should still be waking roughly 3 - 4 hours for a feed.

My daughter is 12 weeks and still wakes for a feed around 3am and then will sleep until 8am. They wake because they are hungry, you can't force a baby to sleep when they are hungry.
