good for an hr left out... toss after that. Once baby drank out of bottle germs start forming from babies saliva.

I would only save it if he hadnt touched it at all, and it hasn't been out more than 10 minutes or so, but generally- I'd throw out what he'd not wanted, if he's due for it but stops halfway,(sometimes falling asleep) he could be windy, burp him and try the rest after the winds out. My 4 kids were all windy little baby's so I would make up the formula a couple of hours before it was needed and do a couple for overnight so they were ready in the morning and no longer full of tiny little air bubbles that can all add up to one very air-filled sore tummy for baby!! :-)

most prepared formula is good for 1 hr after feeding starts! if its not finished in 1 hour, toss it n make a new one! i was told not to refrigerate used formula, breeds bacteria!

I leave it out an hour and he sips off it when he wants that 1 hour then I toss it out. My son is 3 months, 4 months on Dec 8th, enjoy your 1 month old while you can!! it goes by fast!

Quoting Iysha:

It can stay out for a little while, no longer than an hour after you mix it, before you put it in the fridge. My daughter did that a lot too, and still does sometimes. lol. I keep it out a bit longer so I don't have to reheat it if she wants more like 5 minutes later. I refrigerate the portion she didn't finish for her next feeding so formula doesn't go to waste (I'll forget how long the bottle has been in the fridge if I just make a whole new bottle).

The preferred thing to do is to throw away the portion your baby didn't finish after an hour, but I have been putting the rest in the refrigerator for later. It hasn't hurt anything, My baby has been given formula since the day she was born and no problems have occurred at all.

Thanks Lysha!

it can stay out of the fridge on the side for up to an hour, in the fridge for up to 24hrs from when it was first made, and can stay in a cool bag (with an ice pack inside) for up to 4 hours.
((If it has been re-heated up since it was first made, any milk that is left should be dis-guarded.))

Put less in his bottle then. You cannot keep formula that has been used out for more than an hour. Your baby's saliva makes nasty bacteria in the formula. I wouldn't risk my baby with that, so I suggest making less and add some more if he is still hungry.

Formula usually has those kind of answers on the can. Generally you should throw it out after two hours and you're not suppose to refrigerate it, but I have a few times and my son was fine.

I have a one month old as well. If the formula has been prepared and untouched I don't let it sit out for more than 2 hours. But once he has started on it, I throw it out after an hour. Well, that's what I do anyway. I hope this helps.

it should say on the formula container, but most of them can last up to 2 hours standing out, and 24 hours in the fridge. but ya, if he doesn't finish it within the hour, then i would put the rest in the fridge, otherwise throw it away. and what you could do, is if you know how much he's going to eat, then just warm up that portion of it instead of the whole bottle. that way you're not wasting any, and if he wants more then just warm up half of whats left, or however much more you think he would eat.

It should be put back in the fridge. Formula shouldn't be left out for more than an hour, and I think the cans say 2 hours, but..... The cans also say that once they have drank part of it that it should be thrown out, but I don't know anyone who follows that. Congrats on your new addition. Times will get easier and sleep will happen again!
