I am in the process of weaning my 9 week old daughter from breast to a bottle. She is having a hard time with the bottle. She seems to gag everytime i put it in her mouth I tried the avent bottles, now i am currenlty trying the gerber nuk. Does anyone have any suggestions? My mother in law says she does pretty well when she gives her a bottle. Help!?

Hi, i agree with natalie- i like the Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles, just make sure you get the right nipples for her age- they range from newborn-2 months, 3-5 months then 6 months +.(differant flow levels)

Im also still breastfeeding and give him a bottle every now and then.

I have had the worse time trying to get my daughter to take a bottle, she is now 6 months and drinks from a sippy cup better then the bottle! However, I found that my husband, mother anyone but me it seemed would have much better luck. The bottles that worked the best for us were "Adiri" it looks just like the breast almost and it is all silcone, so it feels like one to the baby, not to mention it is much wider then all other bottles, the other one that seemed to work is the Playtex Ventair, they have one specifically for switching from the breast to the bottle. I also know that playtex makes wide nipples that have aided in some of my friends switch. And you may want to try getting a med to fast flow nipple instead of a slow flow, sometimes I found Ava did better if the milk came out of the nipple faster. Good Luck!

hi, well i give my daughter a bottle every now and again as i am trying to wean her on to formula now, and she takes my milk in a tommee tippee bottle , they do ones that are called closer to nature, and shaped like a nipple, try those, they seem good.

it is weird for them tho as sucking on a nipple is apparently totally different from sucking on a teat, so they have to learn something completely new to them. R u expressing ? if not i would deffo try and get her used to a bottle but with your milk first, one step at a time and all that.

If you see this, leave this form field blank.

Quoting Kelly:

thank you for your advice I am going to try and look for that bottle. is it sold at all of the baby stores?

If youa re refering to the Medella brand.  IN Canada, they are pretty well sold everywhere.  If not look online and someone is bound to have it for sale online.  I personally have not heard of the tippee brand.  Good luck.

My son had to have the Medela line of nipples and bottles. worked great as they have such a variety of sizes of nipples available along with different flow rates. They will still take a little getting used to. My son gagged a little when he sucks the nipple too far in so I ease it back out and he's fine again. Good luck. Keep pumping your milk and continue a wonderful trend of bf is you can.
