Have you had any alcohol during your pregnancy?
MOST HELPFUL POSTS
There can be negative impacts from alcohol consumption during pregnancy. But there aren't any negative impacts to not having alcohol during pregnancy, so that was my decision.
But I congratulate you Katherine for your restraint and your progress!

Sherri, you are right about my comment. Women don't HAVE to drink a pint. I didn't write that very well. Women are "encouraged" to drink a pint a day of Guinness. They are also encouraged to drink it during breast feeding to boost milk production. These are are cultural beliefs. It's just the way our parents generation did it and their parents before them. Western doctors ban alcohol, deli meat, hot dogs, shellfish, some cheeses... the list goes on. I think you can spend your pregnancy one of two ways, you can worry about every little thing every day or you can sit back and enjoy it maintaining your normal habits (with a little more moderation). It's really in Gods hands. (I'm not suggesting an expecting mother "go get hammered every night")

I seriously doubt that they HAVE to drink a pint.
Sorry to say but moderation to me would have been a glass or two of wine throughout my entire pregnancy (if I believed in drinking while pregnant, which I do NOT), a couple of glasses a week to me was simply risking your unborn babies health and/or life.

I drank a couple of glasses a wine per week throughout my pregnancy and while breastfeeding. In Ireland pregnant woman have to drink a pint of guinness everyday. In Italy pregnant women drink wine. Every culture is different. (plus I have a young hip obgyn who says everything is fine in moderation)

First, congratulations Katherine!! I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say I am so proud of you!
My doctor told me there was nothing wrong with a glass of red wine every once in a while but I'm not a drinker anyway so I just didn't drink. There are benefits of red wine. I guess I would be more concerned with a smoking pregnant woman. Then again, I know plenty of moms that smoked periodically and have wonderful children that seem to be pretty healthy.

Good on you Katherine! It's wonderful that you have been able to say no to alcohol when it clearly causes problems for you :-)
I didn't drink in either pregnancy, nor while breastfeeding, it's just safer as there isn't any actual safe amount to consume at those times.
You did really well in your pregnancy and since though, and those 3 times I'm sure will not have cause a problem.

well I don't know if it would be considered drinking but when I was seven months pregnant my friends and I were at a renaissance festival, they had an alcohol call Rum Chata (pronounced Sh with a long a sound and ta should kinda be self explanatory) All I did was dip my finger in it to get a taste of it (tastes like cinnamon toast crunch milk ^.^) that was about all I did while pregnant, oh I had two sips of red wine lol and it was disgusting, but it was for a very good friend who passed away at 29 years of age on mothers day(still have a hard time dealing with it).

Good for you, Katherine! What a wonderful thing you did for yourself and your kids!
I'm pregnant with our second right now, and I'm so much more relaxed than with my first, I'm not sure if there's something wrong with me! Cold cuts... oh well. Nitrites in the dried cranberries? Oh, well. Can't swallow the maternity vitamins? Well, I'll get some adult chewables and everything will probably be just hunkydory. No digging in the garden? As if! Hopefully everything will still turn out right.
With my first, I suspected I was pregnant but we were invited to my cousin's house for a dinner party (with wine) and so I took a test and it was negative. But once we got there, I still had a bad feeling about drinking, so I drank probably half a glass. And had a few sips here and there for the rest of the pregnancy out of my husband's glasses, probably about another 1/4-1/2 cup's worth in total.
This time I'm sipping away. My husband has gotten into beermaking, so I like to see what the results are. Not that I have a serving myself, but I take a sip every time. I think it's still fine. Even if he has a beer everyday (which seems like a lot to me... I would be talking to him about that), for me that's only a sip a day, which I can't imagine does any harm at all.

First of all CONGRATULATIONS! 6 Years Sober is amazing! Keep up the good work! That said, some experts say it is okay to have an 8 ounce glass of red wine a week during pregnancy. Personally I did not drink once I found out about my pregnancy. That said, we found out the day after we got back from vacation. While on vacation we visited the Budweiser brewery in Missouri. Yes I drank on vacation, but never got drunk. Heck, I was riding roller coasters too before I knew I was pregnant, and that can cause a miscarriage, but my son is fine.
I had a rum and coke then the next day told my husband that I thought I was pregnant. He asked me why I was drinking the night before if I thought I was and I told him I was still in denial. I took a test about a week later and it was positive. That was it but I'm not much of a drinker to begin with. One thing that did bug me was we got a bottle of wine as a wedding gift we didn't open it before finding out I was preggo so it sat in our fridge for 9 long months.
That is awesome Katherine!

With my first, I had a very sneaking suspicion that I was pregnant. I had 1 beer before I took my pregnancy test, which of course came up positive. But otherwise, no I never had any alcohol with either of my pregnancies. The consequences scared me to much, but I was not into drinking anyway.
Good for you Katherine, that is a lot of restraint!
