yesterday l held my 3 month old and 20 month old together at waist level. My 3 month old twirled around and l did not have a solid grip at the time; he literally dropped on the tiled floor, body impacted first then his head, as neck muscles aren't developed enough to move head back. He was instantly crying in pain, for about 10mins, but then returned to his normal behaviour, giving me large grins of happiness and joy. We were still concerned, as he had a relatively large protrusion, we took him to a local hospital. The Dr told us to come back the next day for a X ray just to be sure all is ok. It has been more than 24 hours since my careless drop, and his behaviour is completely normal. No sickness or bleeding from nose / ear occured, just a little from the mouth, but that went away in secs after a tissue wipe. The protrusion has died down, but it feels very soft, almost like a bag of gel, What is this and what should be done?

thanks in advance

you know starting at three months my son has fallen a few times i felt so bad, and i would be more worried since it was on tile. but i have a feeling if he was more hurt he wouldnt stop crying after just ten minutes. i mean my family ws worried cause my son didnt for more than two minutes they were worried he had problems since he really didnt cry.

i would still go and get the x-ray done just to be on the safe side and to put your mind at ease.what did the doc say about the protrusion?

A few months ago I fell down the stairs to our driveway holding our little boy. At the time he was just over a year. His head bounced off of the cement. We took him to the ER even though he seemed fine, and he was. Babies bones are very flexible! I have a friend who little boy gave himself a concussion. She said that you will know it if it happens. He was projectile vomiting! As far as you baby's protrusion. I would talk to you Dr!

thanks so much everyone. the hospital that we first visited was in shenzhen, china, and health care in china is quite undeveloped, we visited a hospital in hongkong the next day where an xray and CT scan were done immediately, which is normal procedure. altough the skull did have a fracture, there was no bleeding from the brain. The fracture will heal in time. as stated, my 3month year old's behavior was his cheerful self after the 10 mins of crying. l did find it hard to believe that the dr in china said that an xray is pointless until 24 hours after the accident. thanks again all

its been over 24hours now, and he is his typical self, ie all seems normal, just this soft gel like protrusion on back left of skull, though the protrusion is alot smaller; ie wouldn't see unless looked really carefully, even still don't notice protrusion, just a soft gel like feel,he is happy, smiling, cheerful and also crying at times,

WOW don't know I would be back at the doctors for any question I had after dropping a kid :( but that's me. It could be perfectly normal but I wouldn't feel safe at all without a doctor looking at anything I didn't know after something like that.
Hope he's ok :(
