theres been a stomach bug going around and i thought maybe corin was the only one to not get it he is 3 months, he is hungry but when i give him his bottle he squirms and fusses and turns his head. its taken him a half hour to eat one oz. and he keeps sucking on his hand then crying and still he wont take the bottle. his temp is 99.2 so he doesnt really have a fever. idk what to do.

my son does exactly that when he has an ear infection or a sore throat. also, while he was on amoxicillin one time, he got thrush (a yeast infection in the mouth) he sucked on his mouth a lot and wouldn't eat. look in his mouth for white patches on the tongue or inside of the cheeks. going to the doc is your best bet.i hope he gets better, the poor thing

Quoting Christina:

Thank you all.

He was having alittle gas, so i did give him some mylicon. and he is eatting alittle better as in he eats for like 5min then squirms away. i have a thing of lactose free milk so i think ill try that for a few feedings and see if that helps. i asked my husband and we dont think he pooped today so i hope he isnt starting to get consipated. i guess thats really all i can do (unless he gets a fever), til monday when i can try and get him into the doctors office. but it would make alot of sinse if he had an upset stomache seeing as we all just got over the stomach flu and he was the only one who didnt get it. unfortunatly my older son did :(

also he has been sleeping alot more, and that could be a sign that hes sick.

i guess ill give him mylicon again and try that formula and see how it goes. i just hope that if its not the gas that he doesnt start getting sick like my older son tristan did, i dont know that i could stand seeing both my babies that sick.

anywho ill let you know more tomorrow.

It can take up to 2 weeks for dairy to get out of a baby's system, so if it is the lactose, you're going to need to change the diet for more than a few feedings....

could the nipple flow possibly be just too slow for him and he gets irritated because its not coming out fast enough? or the other thing which is what happened with our daughter....she has acid reflux...would eat for a few minutes because she was hungry, but would then fight to finish the bottle and everytime she burped or spit up she would scream...a few things we have done for her...she's on prilosec which has been a godsend for her (she still spits up, but doesnt scream anymore, just smiles) also she was getting really constipated on soy formula so shes now on nutramigen (pricy but as long as its good for her i dont care about cost) and lastly the dr. brown bottles work really well....hope you little man feels better soon

oh and one more thing have you put him on any reflux medication? he could have acid reflux, does he arch his back while feeding? try to keep him totally upright.

My son is a very gassy baby, I have tried gripe water but it does nothing in my opinion. I put a warm pouch on his belly and it helps make the gas come out but I never thought of gas drops.. unless thats basically gripe water.

Have you tried some Mycelan Gas drops, they are completely safe, and they work very well. He may have some gas! Or try a "sensitive" formula?

OMG it is so relieving to hear this from someone else! My son is 3 months old on the 30th of this month. He is the same as your son, and as my neice was (is) too. When I feed him he cries and squirms most of the way through the bottle. I did not know there was a bug going around though. He also has really watery poops, and we thought he wasnt doing well on his regular formula so we changed to it enfamil lactose free and he got better poop wise for about 4 days and now the poops are worse than ever, not to mention he never stopped crying when he eats at all. The only things that sometimes work for us when feeding him is (at the last bottle before bed---if he is sleeping) make sure you keep the lights off but have one near so you can atleast see him, and feed him without waking him up, and do not talk or anything to him. Hopefully he shouldn't wake up. My son didn't about 5 minutes ago when I tried it for the first time as a recommendation from my great aunt- an ex midwife. He should stay asleep through the night or until his regular waking time to feed. The thing I do during the day, that unfortunatly is the only thing I found to work was to lay him on his back on the playmat on the floor and feed him with the tv on and I found he didn't fuss nearly as much- or if I do it on the bed. He also likes lots of distractions while he eats like bouncing and jiggling his legs because he focuses on that instead. I am finding it really hard and tiring. It has been going on for over a month now and I have talked to his nurses and they said his growth chart is fine so as long as he is taking in the nutrience he is fine. My neice was worse and was like it since my son was born, she even went to see a peidiatrician and all they said was the change the formula to the lactose free one... It is working better for her but not for my son at all (or my niece as well as it should either) I will be taking him to the doctor soon because I have been told to try so many things, or that he is just in a phase, but I do not know any other babies like this except my niece and your son. I hope this helps. Post more if you find out anything if you can :) It would be a great help for me, I am at a total loss now.

Try putting the bottle in his mouth and rubbing his cheeks or tockling them and moving around ,I have to do that to get my 5weeks old to eat all the time, Hope it helps and goodluck :)

My son is 9 months now and he was about the age of your son and did the same thing but he had an ear infection. The sucking of a bottle hurts their ears when its infected.

My daughter has a stomach bug right now, and she is 11 months. The doctor told me that milk based formulas upset the stomach more, so try getting a non milk based formula or lactose free for a couple of days..

Keep checking his fever and if it gets too high for over 2 hours than take him to the doctor! He could be feeling under the weather. Or he could be starting to teeth, sucking on his fingers is a good sign. Is he drooling, red cheeks, diaper rash, or diahreha? all these are signs. My son did all of this too. the bottle could be too hot, or he could just not be hungry. Babies go through fazes, sometimes they eat less, and sometimes they eat more. As long as he is alert, peeing(thats a huge one), happy, and no fever im sure he is fine! If it keeps up i would take him to the doctor!
