When do you lose your mucous plug?

Some women will lose their mucous plug or part of their mucous plug weeks before they go into labor. Losing your mucous plug does not always mean labor will begin shortly. Keep in mind that even if a woman has begun to dilate, it may be weeks before she actually goes into labor. (From justmommies website. Good luck--since you are 40 weeks, you probably will begin labor sometime soon. Don't panic, just count how far apart your contractions are. Most physicians and midwives suggest contacting them when your contractions are five minutes apart and lasting 60 seconds and you have had this activity for about an hour.

You can lose your mucus plug like a month before or two months before your due date! And when your mucus plug keeps coming out and your still not in labor The mucus plug can keep making mucus to keep the bacteria away from your baby

I lost a large amount of my mucus plug at 38 weeks and didn't have Zoe until 43 weeks. Everything was fine and the birth went beautifully. She was protected by the caul. Just remember every pregnancy is different and as long as you and the bub are happy no intervention is needed.

you would need to ask the person who examines you what your cervix is doing, as everyone is different, you could have lost your plug but your cervix is still high or it could be low, there is no way of telling without checking unfortunatly.
good luck with the birth btw

Everyone is different. I lost my mucous plug 6 hours before I had my daughter, but my waters were broken by the midwife AFTER my daughter had crowned. However; my sister lost her mucous plug 3 weeks before she had my niece and her waters broke 34 hours before she had her. Don't stress!

I also lost mine like 2.5 weeks before i had Ashlyn. In most cases, you don't lose it all at once so be prepared for some more.

Like the other ladys have said every one is different. If you are concerned ring the hosy or the doc n see what they say. Who knows they might even suggest you go in n have your waters broken. But it can mean that your cervix has dropped. :) Good luck

everyone is different. your cervix can drop while youre in labor. or weeks before. i was walking around 3 cm dilated and a -3 for a week haha. i was just waiting for my water to break. and when i went in for my 39 week appointment the dr said i could go in and have my water broken and have my baby if i wanted to. so i did and when i got to the hospital she checked me and i was at 6 cm. i felt perfectly fine and was having contractions but they just felt like mild braxton hicks.

i wouldnt worry about it. your body knows what to do and will do what it needs to when the time comes. who knows maybe youll go into labor tonight!
