It takes awhile for them to get the hang of the spoon. Don't put sugar on it, just keep trying. This is a learning process for them. They have to figure out how it all works. Sometimes this is the same way with finger food. They have to figure out how to pick it up and put it in their mouth. They are not going to always get it on the first try. Just make a little bit of cereal and keep feeding it to her with the spoon. At first most (if not all) of it will be everywhere but in her mouth, but as she begins to figure it out more and more will start ending up in her mouth.

If she is pushing it out, then she isn't ready. DO NOT put sugar on it. If babies have sweets first like fruits, then they are going to be more likely to refuse the bland veggies. Try in another week or so. If the same happens, then wait another week. I would assume that by 6 months though she'll be ready. And if not at 6 months, mention it to your pediatrician. They do not need food, AT ALL, the entire first year. ( I am NOT advocating this, just stating facts) -- If you have tried several days in a row, and she continues to push it out, just wait. She'll eat.... Good Luck.

You shouldnt add sugar, but you can mix it with breastmilk/formula and some baby fruit.
ALSO she is not intentionally spitting it out, they still have what is called the tongue thrust reflex, that is an instinct that helps naturally prevent choking, be patient and it will disapear eventually.

I have always been told if they are spitting it back out they arent ready and to try again in a few days you just need to keep introducing it to her. You can try mixing it will gerber juice or even some baby food but I wouldnt put sugar in it. My son is 5 months also and kept doing that too and every day I would try and finally she started eating some, so just try, but dont force it on her. When she is ready she will eat, they say start introducing between 4 and 6 months so she has time.

If she's not swallowing it and is pushing it all out with her tongue it probably means she doesn't have the coordination to really eat yet..no big deal..I wouldn't put sugar on it..she'll develop a taste for sweets soon enough..just wait a week or two and try again..eating is a developmental stage not an age.

Loss of tongue-thrust reflex - This allows baby to drink and swallow liquids with ease; with the tongue-thrust reflex still present, baby may simply drink in liquid purees or push the food back out. According to Dr. Jim Sears, in the first four months the tongue thrust reflex protects the infant against choking. When any unusual substance is placed on the tongue, it automatically protrudes outward rather than back. Between four and six months this reflex gradually diminishes, giving the glob of cereal a fighting chance of making it from the tongue to the tummy

if she''s spitting it out it usually means that she is not ready for it. her thrusting reflexes are still there. its a natural reflex that stops them from choking. you should wait til that has past. i would sa stop for now wait until she is 6 months and try again. give her a couple of weeks. there isnt any rush and she doesnt seem ready.

DO NOT PUT SUGAR IN HER CERAL!!! that no what she needs she's way to young for that and it will hurt her belly. she will eat when she's ready ,until then the bottle or breast is fine. just be patient :)

Mix the cereal with a Gerber Juice instead of Formula/Milk. My son hated his cereal with Formula. You can also get Baby Rice/Cereal with Mixed Fruit.
