Hi, A friend of mine has just had a baby she is currently 2 weeks old and formula fed and refuses to bring up any wind, we have tried patting her on the back for up to 20 mins at a time tried putting her over the knee and rubbing her back and a few other things to try get her bring up the wind but she doesn't seem to want to bring it up. Can someone give me some tips that i can pass on to help. Much appreciated thanks.

I have so much trouble with my 4 week old daughter and have gripe water, which isn't helping at all. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work :/ though she seems to fart alot though I'm worried .

Gripe water is the best stuff and also very gentle on the stomach, my daughter was 6 weeks premmie and just could not get out gas or wind, so used gripe water next min she was doing it, awsome stuff, and sarh if u dont have it in the us u guys might have something the same, go to the chemist and ask if there is anything to bring up wind as the gripe water that i have brought is made in the u.s....

I have never heard of Gripe water until being on Circle of Mom's. It sounds like it really works and I hear everyone talking about it, I wish we had it here in the U.S.

I just saw a nurse about this issue with my 8 week old son. She recommended that I place him on my lap facing away from me ( make sure his back is touching my belly) hold his head, and have you lean forward. As well as put his legs in between mine (close your legs to secure him), have him bend over my lap, then pat him on his back. Here in Australia we have a few good items for wind as well. I'm not sure if they are anywhere else. Gripe water and Inficol work miracles! Best of luck to her..I can only imagine how fussy she is!!

I wouldn't do mint tea. Babies should NEVER have any tea! Just like a pregnant mother should NEVER drink tea during her pregnancy.

We have tried the sitting her up and patting her like that but doesn't seem to work. I have never heard Mylicon gas relief i will tell her about that. We have tried lying her on her tummy over our knees and rubbing her back but that didn't work. But will try laying her on the floor on a Blanket doing it see if it helps someone also told me to try mint tea was not sure if that was safe in babies (as i never had any issues with bringing up wind with my own daughter)

Have you tried rubbing her back or tummy in a clockwise direction only other wise it can cause constipation and other things? Also, cycling her legs (like if she was riding a bike, do this gently, but quick) may help and so might pushing her knees to her tummy, extend them, and repeat. Not sure if you have tried these. Is baby complaining of pain from gas? She just might not have any gas to bring up. What type of bottles does she use? I used the playtex drop-ins w/my daughter and she rarely burped. I nurse my son and he rarely burps unless it's on his own. Try laying her her belly on a blanket on the floor and rubbing her back only in a clockwise direction though. The pressure from laying on her tummy and rubbing her back should bring it up. Also, while patting her back make sure to do so just above her diaper, if you pat too high it will not work.

My son had a terrible time with getting the wind out of him too. Have your friend try sitting her up, hold her little head by the chin, and rub her back with some pressure from her palm clockwise and counter clock wise. That one almost always helped my son. Another thing that she could try is the Infants Mylicon Gas Relief. You give the recommended dose before or after she gets fed and it should help her burp. My son used it for months and months that helped aide in his burping too. It is totally safe! I hope these ideas help her! I know how tough it can be for mom and baby!
