my daughter is currently on breastmilk..i noticed today and yesterday she has been spitting up and hardly burping..is that normal? i went to a lactation nurse and tried 3 different methods on burping her..she still barely burps..and i took her to the dr's yesterday...dr insisted on me feeding her "tri vi sol"..but i tried it on her today..she gagged it up..didn't like it..i haven't started her on bottles yet..so i didnt try putting the vitamin drop in her bottle..it scares me because she did gag and choked on her own spit..she does pass gas when she stools..she is hungry every 2-4 hours..someone please help!...thanks

I was told my doctor that breast fed babies hardly burp as often b/c they are not getting air bubbles like they do with a bottle. He even said it was ok to not try to burp him in the middle of the night so I don't stimulate him too much. My baby is breast fed and only burps when he eats too much or when I pump and he drinks from a bottle.

It's completely normal for a baby to have trouble getting their wind up. My daughter NEVER burped until I put her on wind drops at about 6 weeks. She too was breastfed then so I had to administer the drops directly into her mouth. Again, the gag reflex is very strong in babies so it's normal that your baby didn't like the drops to start with. She will get used to them though. Just be calm when you give them to her so she doesn't panic at the new sensation. You'll probably find the wind drops will solve your problem.

I cant really relate to the whole breastmilk thing because my baby is bottle fed but he refused to burp too for probably the first 6 weeks and at his 6 week apointment my doctor told me to just not stop and so i didnt. i would burp him sometimes for an hour and he was still eating every 2-4 hours. It was a pain in the butt but eventually he got used to it and now he burps pretty easily.
