HYDROZOLE Cream. It's the best I've tried. Doctor can prescribe or maybe over the chemist counter, depending on your residence.

Here's another one of those "I know it sounds crazy, but it really works" things...scorched flour. My grandmother said they used to use it religiously when they didn't have diaper rash cream. You just put plain white flour in a frying pan and heat it until you smell it burning. Then put it in a sackcloth or cup cloths or something that you can tie up and pat on, and it will allow some of the flour to get through. After one day, my son's bleeding diaper rash was gone. It worked better than the 40% zinc oxide cream, which generally works. Now the flour is all we use.

I have not read all of the replies so I am not sure if this has already been mentioned, but My now 4 year old daughter had a normal diaper rash as a newborn and I applied diaper rash cream wich made it horribly worse. The problem turned out to be that she was allergic to zinc oxide which is just about EVERY diaper rash cream. I used A & D ointment for her rashed from that point on and it worked great!!

We just went through a bad spell like this too. Give him lots of time without his diaper on to let it dry out. But we ended up using Walmart's or Target's brand of the 40% zinc oxide plus corn starch (or a powder that has corn starch in it). Worked really well, then found out later from the doctor it was a rash with yeast build up. My dr. told me to call her next time it happened and she would call in a script for something even better then what we were using. hope he gets to feeling better.

i had a friend suggest to me one time to use that nipple cream called Lansinoh. it sounds weird, but it was the only thing that got rid of my baby girl's rash. I think you can get it at Walgreen's. Now, that's what I use whenever I see a rash developing and it gets rid of it quicker than anything else i've tried.

Best thing I have found is Metanium for nappy rash - I am from the UK though, so not sure where it is available? Also, warm water and cotton wool- no wipes works best for us. Using Weleda bum cream everyday which is fantastic.

Have you tried changing diapers and wipes. My son was alergic to the latex in his diapers.

my son at 7months just went through the same thing and i used LOTS of Vaseline and then coated it with powder.... the Vaseline worked to stop the pee and poo from stinging the current rash and the powder helped with moisture. You can also try just plain water with you hand for the diaper changes as this is what i did and my son has fully recovered in the matter of 4 days.

Joni, I wish I had you as a care giver here in WI!
I had forgot to mention in my earlier post, make sure the diaper is loose, not too loose, but you also don't want it to be too tight. Air needs to get in there. If air doesn't get in there imagine wearing tight spandex all the time. (Good analogy? lol)

AIR DRY lay him down on a towel just let it have air and when you put a diaper on him cream cream cream cream it up and when you change him pat it dry before you put the cream back on and make sure you wipe really good and clean. guaranteed this will work I used to watch kids and I took care of a baby that the rash was so bad he was bleeding so I did this and in a couple of days completely gone.

Well, I was going to suggest Epsom salts as we used those for my daughter (in the bath) but if he didn't like the oatmeal.... we also switched to sensitive wipes and diapers which helped, and let her air out as much as possible before putting the next diaper on. Creamy A&D seems to work well for us....maybe it was a combination of everything.

If it has bumps or is not clearing up ask your dr... it could be a yeast infection, and then they will give you another cream for that. We got one its a yellowy ointment and then we put penetin or whatever bum cream we have on hand on top and it was cleared up in a few days... and it was BAD!! We still have lots so if her bum gets sore I put it on her to help it. Also try using a warm cloth rather than wipes till it clears up, and bathe more often, even 2-3 times a day if you can. We were told to try leaving her diaper free for a few minutes each diaper change at home... its hard to do with her and not have a poopy mess lmao

Please everyone, I see only one mom mentioned using breast milk, we really should utilize this more!!!! I know so few moms know that breast milk heals rashes cuts burns etc, but it's so good! And completely natural, safe, risk free, and no money spent!
And if you aren't breastfeeding, maybe you have a friend or relative who is and could pump you some, trust me it's worth it.

All I ever use is my breast milk, it works so fast I only need to put it on for a day and the rash is gone.
Since our milk is a living liquid it has so many live immunities in it that can heal very efficiently and fast.
I have not needed diaper cream at all!

Triple Paste is amazing!!! Worked wonders for my daughter (who does NOT have sensitive skin) and w/her it took the rash away by the next diaper change!!! However when used on a diaper rash from sensitive skin due to the diaper and wipes and whatever else, it is a waste of money.

Yes powder can cause those things but if the powder is used correctly it should be fine. Powder should be kept only on the bottom and not used on the chest area as it can be inhaled. Also if you are using powder the best way is to pour it into your hand and pat it on. Don't shake it on because the particles can get in the airway. The thing with the paste is that if its being used on the diaper area for a rash, then that area needs to be exceptionally clean and if you are not wiping it all off then obviously that area is not as clean as it can be. I really don't agree with not wiping it all of as leaving it there seems like it can cause some bacterial issues and cause further problems. Just my opinion though. Just remember that doctors may have a degree in medicine but only you as a mother knows what works best for your child!

Tabitha, I had thought the same as you w/the cream defeating the purpose, but the cream protects the skin from the urine and poo. And I was told by the pediatrician that you do not have to wipe all of the cream off at each changing, just make sure the butt is clean and obviously remove any cream that is dirty. I never tried the powder and I'm still leery on using it as I have heard that powder causes asthma and other breathing problems in babies... or is that just when used on the chest area and what not when used as a lotion..?

My son was constantly getting a diaper rash when he was younger. I always used a cream paste for the rashes and it never seemed to work. Not to mention that it is hard to wipe of of his bottom at diaper changes and rubbing on the skin to do this made his rash much worse. I decided to ditch the paste at that point. I found that using medicated powder actually worked alot better. It doesn't stick to the skin and it doesnt absorb the moisture. I always thought it kind of strange to use a wet substance on the bottom for a rash because it kind of defeats the purpose of trying to keep the bottom dry. Also a cpl times a day we would sit him in the sink with a few inches of cool water to kind of flush out any irritants that the wipes do not get. Make sure not to wipe the bottom to hard and if you have to rinse off his bottom instead. Try the powder because everytime he has a rash now the powder gets rid of the worst of it by morning time!

My son is now 4 months old and for the first 2-3 months he had a chronic diaper rash. And I believe at one point he had infintigo. He also used to poop every 5 minutes.... the majority of the time I'd change his diaper he would poop right after I got the clean one on!! I'm not kidding! His was from sensitive skin and I have to get the senstivie diapers which you get like half the diapers for the same price as the regular diapers. ANYWAYS!! Sorry, got off track. What I had to do was use sensitive wipes, or just water on a soft wash cloth. Let his butt air dry or pat it dry w/a soft wash cloth or something, make sure his butt is completely dry, and I had to coat his butt in the maximum strength desitin (it's like a paste), I also had to put triple anti bacterial ointment (like neosporine) on his butt every other diaper change... if you do that, put the Neosporin on then the desitin. I'm not sure about the oatmeal baths, but I would soak my son in a warm (make sure it is not too warm obviously) bath w/NOTHING in it!! You can also call the pharmacist and order a Zinc Oxide ointment (just plain Zinc Oxide), not sure where you are here in WI they don't sell just plain Zinc Oxide anymore. Good luck!! Also, not sure how old your son is, but make sure there is no acid foods in his diet.

I used everything with my two boys... i used to buy the most expensive creams! Spent fortunes and nothing worked... well it helped but it didn't heal it and then my friends mother who has 6 children said to me, "I know it sounds silly but have you tried corn flower?" I thought i have money lol i can buy the better stuff but i'll remember that for when im down on money. I had some in the cupboard though so i just decided after nothing else was working to try it and the next money AND I SWEAR IM NOT EXAGGERATING!! It was gone!!! Just a couple of red marks... I put a whole heap in now if they get rash because when they wee or if they have runny poos it dries them up into little white DRY balls and it dries the rash out to. I SWEAR BY IT!! Theres nothing wrong with the creams and they do work but i get the best and quickest result from simple old fashioned corn flower!

i use a+d onitment not the cream cream is the white one. but i had to take my daughter to the doctors to make sure that it wasnt a yeast infection. and they told me to stick with one for a while and make sure not causin more harm by keepn switchin the diaper rash treatments and to either use unsentited wipes or a warm wash cloth to clean her and if there is really bad spots to get a lotion based cream called aqua4 which can be found in pharamacys by the lotion isle, if cant find it there ask a clerk at the store they might carry in baby isle. but to put that on and the the daiper rash cream of your choice. i perfer my a+d it works like a charm but put a TON of which ever of your choice but even though you know hes not feelin well should make apt with the doc to see what they recomend and make shure its not really bad.

My son as never had it that bad, but he's doctor told me to use petroleum jelly because it creates a barrier and does not come off when they pee. I usualy put rash cream on him at bed time because usualy he as a little rash in the morning but he still had it. I started using the petr. jelly and when he wakes up he as no rash. But if it's real bad you might want to call the doctor.

Does it have blisters or small bumps? If so it is combined with a yeast build up! Lotramin works great for that! We had that prob when my son was about a month...keep doing the diaper rash cream and be sure to put tons and tons on, keep up the oatmeal baths, change his diaper more often and then the lotramin cream...as soon as we did that it went away with in a few days! Oh nappy paste works great for diaper rash cream!

Renae - posted on 10/12/2010

Have you tried nappy paste? Its an old fashioned nappy cream that really sticks to the skin. If even that isn't helping, there is a barrier cream called Conveen, made by Coloplast (website is www.coloplast.com). It is not a nappy cream it is a hospital grade barrier cream. They use it as nappy cream in children's hospitals for babies with acidic poo that burns their bottom. I have to ask the pharmacy to order it in as none of them normally stock it expect the pharmacy at the hospital.

Also give him as much nappy free time as possible for the skin to dry out and heal. Just put him on a towel and after he poos run his bottom under cold water to clean it. It is very messy and yucky but it will stop the rash from becoming worse.
