Oh hun... I wish your doctor would have told you more :(

Lymphnodes in the neck, arm pits and even down by your thighs are our bodies natural way to fight off an infection. So they swell when there's an infection.

Mine swell off and on along with my tonsils for years now. Sometimes worse than others. If I were you, I would be worried about why they were swollen constantly... why your doctor didn't discuss this more with you, why he didn't mention anything about how they work or why they are swollen or even what it could possibly be!!!! What a jerk!

Did he not see any signs of infection? That's usually the first thing they discuss with you. Usually caused by a bacteria your body tries to fight off causing the swelling and stuff...

So just by what you said, I would take her to a different doctor, say they swelled up and you want to know why. Period. Get someone who will talk to you more, and try maybe some antibiotics like Amoxacillin to see if it goes away? Good luck!

Oh and as an additive.... sometimes our bodies fight off infection fine, heal and move on...... but when my tonsils swell there is no getting away with it. My lymph nodes and all send me to the doctors office 2-4 times a year for antibiotics. Sucks. Definiatly get another doctor and a second opinion and try the Amox. My son is 6 months old and got an ear infection the Amox took it away. Safe drug for young babies :)

ohhh.. man that bites. I hate crappy doctors and it seems as if our system sets them up to be crappy because in America we don't do preventative health as much as the Holy Crap into the emergency room and who is the sickest? Gets treatment in order to shove them back out......... it sucks. I would love to see a nutritionist and work with one. Also, would love to work with a natureopahic one too...... been meaning to look into how much they cost but of course it's not like we have extra money to throw around for what would probably be 50-100 a visit

The pediatricians in my area don't like to diagnose allergies before 2 or 3, and I'm struggling to get my daughter diagnosed now. The last pediatrician called his severe reactions "a cold and the flu" because he had a fever. I actually had one nurse tell me that allergies don't cause fevers. I guess because my children don't go into anaphalactic shock it's easier to medicate them than figure out whats wrong. I've switched pediatricians, but it's like starting all over again trying to make progress.

Thanks for the yogurt suggestions, they actually have been getting the Danactive Immunity Booster yogurt for the last 2 yrs (son) and year (daughter). Still have allergy issues but haven't been sick at all :) Part of it is that my son has dairy sensitivities that cause problems when combined with the environmental allergies.

Oh, and when I eat yogurt constantly (on a day to day basis) my lymphnodes and tonsils do not swell. You could try this for your 6 year old son? They say the cultures in it help to fight bacteria in your body. Mine usually swell up 4 times a year but with my pregnancy I ate Yogurt the whole time because I didn't want to take meds while pregnant and it worked

Yikes :( they haven't found help for your son yet?! That's so painful and draining on your body for your body to think it's 'sick' all the time.... I'm exhausted when my body does it

My son is 6 now and has always had the lymph nodes in his neck swollen. When he was an infant the same thing was said to me, they swell when he got sick and sometimes it just takes a long time for them to go back down. Some of his nodes have been swollen or go through cycles for a year or more. I will point out in his case that he has severe allergies to thing in the environment and sensitivities to foods so his body is basically fighting "infection" on a daily basis, since all allergies are is the immune system response to a foreign body - his body just thinks he is sick ALL the time :-/

Also my mom just said it can be a sign of Thyroid problems. Hers are always swollen and she says doctors always want to check her for Thyroid problems so just another thing to keep in mind.
