How big/heavy is your 4 month old?

At 4 months my little boy is 13.6 pounds. People often comment that he is small as he is also quite long. However he has been tracking along the 25 percentile since birth and is exclusively breastfed. The doc would also like me to continue breastfeeding exclusively for another month or so before we start solids. I constantly worry about my milk supply and whether he is happy and progressing but we all need to remember that they are individuals and we need to respect them as such. I need to say these words to myself everyday so don't feel like your on your own :)

My baby is now 5 months old and just passed the 13 lb mark, 24 inches long/tall. She is breastfed, and seems to eat all she wants. I think she's doing fine, although she still fits in some of her bigger "3 month" clothes. I am pretty skinny, and she started out somewhat small (6 lbs 8 oz). My philosophy is, as long as she is generally happy and somewhere in the middle-ish of that growth chart, she's doing ok.

Breatfed babies tend to not weigh as much, but that's not a bad thing! As long as she's healthy! My 4 month old is 16.5lbs, 25 inches long, but I'm 6 feet tall and so is my husband...plus she was a nine pounder at birth.

Healthy and happy is all you should aim for. There is no such thing as too small or too big, as long as they are happy, they will have many more variables as an adult anyway. I think it is best to be careful and not label as there are many anxious Mum's out there doing their best and they don't need to think they are failing because their babies are smaller than average. There has to be babies smaller and bigger than average otherwise their wouldn't be an average!

My baby girl was born 2 weeks early at a tiny 5.10. 19.5 inches.
At 3 months old she was still tiny at 8.4
Now at exactly 6 months she weighs in at 12 pounds and 23 inches.
She eats every 3 hrs about 4 oz.
Shes developing beautifully acvording to her age and therefore i am not worried. Ifnyour baby is developing according to age theres no need for concern
Enjoy them while their young!!!!

My 3 month old is 14 lbs and 23 inches. Whether you bottle feed or nurse definately makes a difference. Either way, the baby is healthy. Don't you worry.

My little boy is 8 weeks old and weighs 13lbs. 1.5oz. He is in the 95th percentile. He was only 7 lbs. when he was born so he has almost doubled his weight in 2 months! I think that he is going to be a big boy :) I have actually had people tell me that I am feeding him too much!

Quoting Nikki:

If your baby is happy and healthy, just enjoy her. Not every baby falls right in the 50th percentile, and if your little girl is petite, it doesnt mean there is anything wrong with her. My son is at the other end of the spectrum (17.5 lbs and 27" at 4 months) and I was getting SO tired of people commenting on how BIG he is for his age, as if he were some sort of freak. Seriously, sometimes I would get so sick of hearing it that I would actually get mad. But he is healthy and strong and perfect in every way , just a little bigger than his pals, so who cares what size onesies we have to buy. He is breastfed as well, and I think we all just grow at our own pace. As long as she is meeting her developmental milestones, don't stress!

I don't think anyone is stressing....My guy is "big" as well and I hear it everyday pretty much. I think it's just interesting to hear about  everyone's babies.

Well my daughter is 12 weeks old today and she is 22" tall and weighs 9lb 14oz. She is breast fed and is doing great. Don't worry about how big or small the baby is, they are still growing and so long your baby is healthy thats all that matters.

My little girl was 11 pounds, 8 ozs and 24 inches long at her four month check up. My doctors seemed worried about how little she was when she was two months, but now they haven't really said anything. She is breastfed most of the time and bottled at daycare. I'm tiny and my husband is tall, so it kinda looks like right now she is going to be my body type and his height. But she is bright eyed and wonderful so no worries, but it was a little scary at first when they said she was too small.

My little girl is still so tiny she is 4 months today and only 8 lbs 4 oz.  She has had a few problems with reflux and is now taking meds for this to help her keep more food down.  She is starting to gain quickly now.  Thank God we we're so worried for a while.

my son is 4 months and one week old and he weighs over 18 pounds, he also looks like a 6 month old baby, but I agre we should stop labeling them as long as they are happy and healthy and soon enough they will burn it right of anyways. It's almost become a war of what is a perfect baby weight when all we should really do is embrase every moment with them since they grow so fast !

I'm glad to hear that my lil guy isn't the biggest chubbster there is!!!!lol!!!! He has slowed down alot in weight gain because he is getting extremely active and won't nap.

Glad to see these posts. My little girl is 4 mos and I think around 13 lbs. We go to the Dr on Thursday. She seems so small when I see other babies. She is exclusively breastfed, we just started rice cereal last week since her appetite is increasing! I think formula fed babies seem to grow a little faster. We are both short/petite people so I think she's just small like us too.

My son just turned 4 mths yesterday, and had his check up. He is 25 inches long, but only weighs 13lb 6 oz. He was 8lb 10oz when he was born and 23 inches long, so he is growing slowly. I breast feed and formula feed. A few friends of mine had their sons within a week of me having mine and they all weigh a few pounds more than mine.

The doc said weight wise he is in the 25 to 50 percentile. Length he is in the 50 to 75 percentile. He suggested I start feeding him rice cereal now, and then start on veggies in another month.

At 4 months my son was 19.5 pounds and 24 inches long. He was wearing 9 month clothing. I am only breast feeding and didn't start solids until he was 6 months because he was so big. The ped says he's healthy and beautiful. His daddy is 6'4". And his grandpa is 6'3", so he gets it honestly. His brother is 5 and he is 4' 5" and 53lbs. People think he's 7.

YOu guys have small babies!! At 4 months my daughter was 21lbs.  Doctors always just commented saying how healthy she is.  She is now 7 months and over 27lbs.  Still she is happy and healthy.  She is also tall for her age (about 90%tile), but obviously off the charts for weight.  She is formula feed however and once she starts moving more I am sure she will slim right down.

My son weighed in at 15 pounds at his 4 month check up. He was 24 inches long. He is my 3rd baby, but the first successful breastfed baby, and I think the breastmilk has made him chunkier, albeit healthy! My other 2 were not as chunky and they were bottle fed. Hope that helps.

My baby is also 4 months.. will be 5 months on the 13th of Feb.  He is 13lbs 8oz and 24 inches long.  My baby was born 3 weeks early and weighed 5lbs 12oz. He's definitely healthy, with rolls on his legs, even though he is in the 10th percentile, he's a happy baby.  My baby is bottlefed, so it really doesn't matter if babies are breastfed or bottlefed, as long as they are healthy, all babies weigh differently depending on how much they weighed at birth.  I too look at other 4 month olds and think they are so much bigger than mine.. but can you imagine carrying around anything heavier than a 13 pound baby? lol.. that seems heavy enough some days!

i feel like my son is a giant! he's a two weeks before he turned 4 months he was about 17 pounds. Anywhere we go, everyone's comment is "oh boy! let me guess he's 8 months old!"  and "oh don't overfeed him, he's too big" As long as they're eating healthy, I guess we have nothing to worry about! we're all built differently

I am in the same situation. My daughter is 5 months old and 2 weeks ago weighed 13 pounds 10 1/2 ounces and was 24 inches long. In comparison to other babies her age and younger even she is so tiny! But my doctor told me that as long as she is eating and seems happy that is just how she is going to be for now.

At 4 months my daughter was 12lbs. 8 oz. and 23 in. long. This put her in the 10th percentile for height and weight. She is bottlefed. I am petite at only 4'11'' ~ I'm still working off post pregnancy weight! My point is, just like adults, babies come in all shapes and sizes. Do not stress. As long as she is happy and healthy and meeting her milestones do not worry. Plus your doctor is happy with her size.

Enjoy your little girl. She will grow up so quickly and change so much and learn so much!

[deleted account]

just curious to know what size all of your babies are...

my girl is almost 13 pounds and 24 inches long. shes happy, healthy and chubby...and the doc says she is fine, just a little below the average curve, but whenever i see another 4 month old my baby seems soo small. she is breastfed, could that make a difference?
