How can I convince my baby to like a carrier?

My 11-week-old daughter screams whenever I try to put her in a carrier and always has. I've tried my friend's Maya wrap and a Snugglie. She hates them both. I have a bad back, and she's reaching a weight where it's really painful for me to carry her in my arms. Friends have recommended the Ergo, but I don't want to spend the money if she's going to refuse that one, too.

I've tried popping her in one of the carriers when she's in a happy mood, when she's almost asleep, and keeping her in it for a while and trying to make it fun, and everything else I can think of. She does the same thing when her sitter tries. She can hold her head up really well. I'm thinking the Maya wrap doesn't allow her to move around, plus she has made it clear she does NOT want to be held like a baby anymore. I thought the Snugglie would work better for her because she can move her legs around and "stand" on me (standing makes her very happy), but she will have none of it.

A couple weeks ago, I tried the carriers again, and she was suddenly fine with either style. Both hurt my back worse than carrying her in my arms, so I spent some tax refund money to get us an Ergo. We both love it! She can look all around, and I can carry her without pain or strain.

Look on craigslist for an ergo. That way you are only spend half.

My son doesn't like slings. He'll tolerate the front pack we have. His favorite is actually our hiking pack for our daughter.

Both of mine liked to look forward over facing me. The only exceptions were in huge crowds and when they were sleepy.
