I am not sure if you can 'make' a baby sleep through the night, but I did find a solution that worked with my daughter and she has been sleeping through the night since she was 2 1/2 months old.

I started a nighttime routine almost immediately. After dinner (she is now 17 weeks old, so she gets a tiny bit of cereal for dinner), I would give her a bath or playtime in the bathtub (since you are not supposed to bathe a baby every night) and rub lotion before dressing her in pajamas. Then we would read a story and I would finally offer her a bottle around 7:30P. This has worked for me and she will typically sleep from about 8:00 until between 5:00 and 5:30 each morning.

The early morning wake up works for me because I have to leave just after 6:00 in order to make it to work for 7:00. Just wanted to give some advice as to how it worked for me. The other thing I asked the sitter to do was not allow Fiona to sleep all day - maybe 4 hours +/- in order to distinguish the difference between night and day.

Well, after 6 months of waking up 20 times per night, every mom would like to find a secret way to make baby asleep trough the night... I think tired and irritable mom can't be a good mom. So it's very important for mom to get some restful sleep too! So far i've found some good advices and I've found out that baby must learn how to fall asleep by her/his self... So when he/she wakes up at night wont need me, or food or dummy to fall asleep back... I started to practice it and now she wakes up only 2 time per night... So it's getting better and formula to make baby a sleep trough the night does exist.

Personally I don't think you can "make" your baby sleep. Babies sleep longer stretches when they are ready to do so. It's not abnormal for a 6-month-old to still be waking at night.
