How do you get housework done?

I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on what to do with the kids while doing ironing, etc. I have a 2 year old & 1 year old and if I leave them alone, tears start, but I don't want them near when I'm ironing. What do other mums do?

I sit my daughter in her high chair with a safe BABY snack and sit her on the other side of the living room and I iron and talk to her to keep her busy and she knows that Mommy is still in the room! I let her play in my room while I clean it and she plays with her toys while I clean her room. I sit up her pack and play while I clean the living room and the kitchen and sit her near enough that she can see me! If she is just having a really bad day then I wait until I lay her down for nap and then I do my mommy chores!

I put my son in his high chair with a snack that I know he's ok to eat alone. I put on his favorite show Yo gabba gabba and I know I have 1hr to clean or cook. If he's super fussy I just wait for my husband to get home to do my mamma chores, hope this helps.

As many people have said, I don't iron! We buy wrinkle free clothes and pull the clothes out of the dryer ASAP! For all other cleaning tasks, I generally clean with my children playing nearby or helping. My daughter is 2 1/2 and my son is 5 months, so I've got my hands full. But when I sweep, Izzy loves to have her tiny broom and sweep with me, and then she continues sweeping while I mop. When I vacuum, she also vacuums with her toy vacuum. If I'm cleaning another area of the house, I generally enlist her help. She loves to bring things to the trash, to the recycle box, or run toys to her room or her brother's room. Her favorite is pulling clothes from our frontloading washer and putting them in the dryer. But I greatly dislike cleaning during naptime. I don't advise doing that. You've got to relax and recharge at some point, so put aside some time to yourself while the kiddos sleep.

Lots of household tasks littleuns can help with, but I can only manage the ironing at night of when my toddler is asleep or in the day being entertained by Daddy.

I use the playpen for situations like this. I put special toys in the playpen for my 1yr old. I don't use it often so he doesn't mind going in for a wee bit.

I don't iron! I let my kids play near me while I do things or do it while they're napping if it's important.

Buy no wrinkle clothes lol seriously I throw wrinkled stuff in the dryer with a wet towel and it usually does the trick well

Hey Alison, I usually do what Sharon mentioned - save the ironing until the kids are asleep. Or I try and find a TV program that will keep her interested long enough for me to get it done! :)

Ironing I do either when hubby is home, or the kids are asleep (19mths & 9wks). Everything else I try to get our 19mth old to help me with it. He loves loves loves helping me with any of the things I do. He's now even started asking if we can do the washing so he can press the button on the machine and then hand me the clothes & pegs to hang out :-D
