My son is almost 11 months old and I am trying to wean him from a bottle to just a sippy cup but I have heard two different things on how to go about it
1st thing I have heard is only offer the sippy cup with water or juice than when you switch from formula to whole milk put the whole milk in the sippy and do away with the bottle
OR
2nd thing I have heard is to just offer everything in the sippy cup and do away with the bottle because he knows if I try to give him formula in a sippy cup that if he won't drink it from a sippy I always cave and put it in a bottle for him.
Want to hear your advice and experience on this,
Thanks

A lot of the new sippies have rubber-like spouts to make the transition easier. When I was switching my oldest 2 over I started giving them juice with lunch so they associated it with eating time. Once they got drinking the juice down, I transitioned to milk. My daughter had the hardest time giving up the bottle so I cut the tip of the nipple off the only bottle left in the house & gave it to her w/her milk in it. When it dumped all over her, I told her "Uh oh, it's broke" and she threw it away & never looked back.

While they were learning how to drink from the sippy I would only put water in the sippy. I would remove the valves so it was easier for them to get something....thus the reason why I did not put anything but water. It can be hard for them to figure out how to drink from the sippy with the valve in. Once they figured out how to drink from it then I went to putting whatever they were drinking in the sippy during the day. I would only do a bottle in the AM and one before bed....this way I knew they were getting enough liquids if they were not drinking much from the sippy during the day. Then when I felt like they were doing good with the sippy during the day I would take away all the bottles. This is how I did it, but each child is going to be different and respond to different ways so go with the way you feel will work the best for your child.
