OK, Brent is squirming and having a hard time. I have recently changed his formula from Enfamil Lipil with Iron to Similac Advance with Iron about 4 days ago. Unfortunately I can't change him back because that is all that WIC will buy...(Stupid, I know) They said that he shouldn't have any problems because they are both equal. He had diarrhea for the first two days after being really gassy but now his stomach is hard, and he's still gassy.. He has been burping and tooting, so those things are working fine.. I've tried the "bicycle", pushing his legs up, and massaging under the belly button and the tailbone.... Is there any else I can try with my 3 week old constipated baby? I have heard about the Karo Syrup but I really don't feel comfortable giving him that yet, and I have heard different views on it, so I'm kinda iffy about it. Is it OK to give a 3 week old the prune juice and water?? I've called my doctor and they are no help, all they ever say is that you have to come in, and we only have one car, that my husband has right now, so it's not possible today!

We thought our daughter was constipated and were told to just stick the tip of the thermometer in her bottom. After doing this she had a really good poopy diaper and was not constipated any more. Hope this helps with your 3 week old constipated baby.

this is what worked for us. i was told if my baby and not gone in 24 hours give a bottle of water, if not in 48 hours give him a infant suppository and some water---15 minutes later he was so happy!

make sure you mix the formula correctly--measure water first then the appropriate amount of formula.

at 4 weeks you can give prune juice but i would give it earlier if he is having trouble. 50 mills water to 20 mills prune juice ad feed up to 30 mills per day of that solution for a newborn. give as much water as you can between bottles and use vaseline on a cotton tip when you change his nappy i always do and it works well. you can also use a tiny bit of raw sugar in the bottle from birth or put 5-10 mills extra water when making the formula

There are glycerin suppositories that are for infants to make her go. The doc in the nicu gave it to my daughter when she was a few days old because she was constapated and it worked great. They are really cheap too. Any pharmacy should carry them. good luck.

He needs to see his doctor. It sounds like constipation, and that can be very dangerous for such a young baby. If you can get a ride, or take a bus, do so!

I wouldn't give him anythin especially if he is not eating as much because he may have some sort of blockage, so please take him in to the doctor's!

We have been putting a tablespoon of Karo syrup in our daughter's body since she was 2 months old-that is the only thing keeping her moving...

Just be warned, the suppository will make her go...a lot. Cover the room in plastic!

My husband mixed formula wrong (2 oz of water and 4 scoops of formula!) and my daughter has been constipated ever since. She has not been regular and the doctor recommended prune juice (1oz of water, 1 oz of prune juice) to clean her out. It worked.. sorta. We then had to put her on it every other day and are now at every day. Typically, they should go pretty regularly if you give them prune juice (once a day). My daughter still isn't going to I am demanding to see a GI specailist at her 2 month appointment. This has been going on since she was 3 weeks old. :o(

Give him prune juice and water, how many days since he hasn't gone?

I've been giving my daugher prune juice since she was about a month old. Not too much, maybe start off with half ounce with a half ounce of water. However, I have read that taking their temperature rectally can help them to go. Remember, it's not about how often they go but the consistency of the poo when they do. If her poo is hard, dry and formed then she needs something to help loosen her up. If you use prune, just make sure you use the stuff that is in the adult section, the pure prune and not the baby stuff because it's mixed with apple juice. Good luck!
