I'm nearly 40 week pregnant and bleeding slightly with cramp like pains. Could this be early labor?

Sounds like early labor to me! (Contrary to what someone else said, "early labor" is the first part of Stage 1, before you reach 5-6 cm and enter active labor -- labor before 37 weeks is pre-term labor, not early labor.)
Try to rest, but also take lots of walks; drink lots of water and eat healthy foods; and think about how wonderful it will be to hold your baby in your arms! Try not to go to the hospital too early to avoid too many interventions! Good luck and let us know when the baby arrives!

That is how my labor started with period like cramps all day, I thought they would just go away!!! Boy was I wrong later that night when I tried to relax in bed noticed these cramps were every 5-8 min apart. They were not very painful. Then had some bleeding and got nervous and went to hospital. Good theng I did because I was contracting 2-3 min apart in active labor. So yes I think you may have started labor good luck!!!

Hey thanks everyone, my midwife says being 40 weeks pregnant and bleeding is a "show" and just to call back if it gets any worse! It all happened so quickly with my son, 2 year ago, i didn't have all this lol the cramps seem to come and go all day. Hope she is going to arrive soon, just worried about infection and the thought of this dragging on for days!

I would say, try to rest and monitor your cramps, if they are 5 minutes apart go to the hospital. Also, you shoud call your Dr or go to the hospital if you are bleeding a lot. I am excited for you, congratulations!

Yes it could be labor... I would call your Dr and tell him and see what he advises.

Sounds like you could be in ACTUAL labor. Early labor is anything before 36 weeks I think. Good luck and congrats

u could be, u may hv just had ur show, just monitor the cramps and see how long they last and how far apart they are, as they may be the contractions starting. Also keep an eye out for backache as can have contractions in the back too (I did) Your waters may break too but dont be worried if they dont cos mine had to be broken at hospital, hope this helped GOOD LUCK!

40weeks!? isn't it 40 when you usually pop? i dont remember, but i would call the Doc!!! Being 40 weeks pregnant and bleeding maybe be from your cervix stretching, or something more serious. you might be in labor tomorrow with cramps now if they seem to be returning like every 10 min or so.
