I have been breast feeding on and off for the past month but I can't take it anymore. I have been putting my little guy on the Enfamil and Similac formula but he is so gassy and doesn't poop alot. Should I be concerned if he is lactose intolerance and try him on a soya based formula?

You best bet is to ask you doctor and explain his symptoms to him/her/ My doctor put my son on Enfimil AR, worked great for the gassyness and his gerd!

We've been using Good Start with the purple label and it's been working quite well - good luck!

Soy based is actually going to cause more gas/fussiness. Also, I have heard from numerous moms and doctors that most babies prefer Enfamil over Similac. BUT, the generics are JUST AS GOOD and a whole lot cheaper!!! If you go from BF to formula without weaning, it could be several days before he poops. Many babies will go up to a week without pooping when on formula, and typically will have a lot more issues with gas since they are not really moving at a month! Remember to pedal his legs, rub the tummy in a clockwise motion, warm baths and maybe Mylicon. - My son is doing well on Target brand UP & UP. And instead of 24 or 25 a can it's 11.89! The ONLY difference in it between that and Enfamil is 1 more gram of water per 5oz. of bottle made! (Which the extra gram of water is good for them!) GOOD LUCK!

Don't switch to soy based without talking to your doctor. I think this is a pretty common reaction when switching from breastmilk to formula. I would try perhaps one of the "Gentle" formula's (Gentlease is what we used) and see if that makes a difference. The first thing might be to call the pediatrician though and see what they think. Good luck!

I just went through the same thing with my baby. She is 8 weeks. One warning I will give you is dont try out too many formula's. You can actually give your baby a formula intolerance (we did.) My baby cannot take Enfamil at all. It makes her throw up right away. We found Good Start with the orange label has been the best. The gas is common with formula babies as is the constipation. Soy made my baby constipated but a friend of mine, the soy worked the oppoiste way for her lil one. Try adding a teaspoon of Karo syrup to the formula. This will help with the constipation. I will take some time but do it with every bottle. Its doctor recommended so you dont have to worry. Also, adding Mylicon to the bottle too will take care of the gas. It takes the bubbles away immediately. Good luck!

We tried different formulas and samples from the hospital. Baby girl seemed to prefer Similac Advanced infant Formula (the blue milk based one). But my cousin's child likes the red one it's for Sensitive tummies. I think her baby is lactose intolerant like her mom.
